THE BANNER The Banner's 116th Year to Serve the People of Jackson County Saturday, May 25, 1985 1-B Academic, Attendance Awards Presented To Medora Students Angela Frey Seymour To 279 In Class Of Angela Kay Frey and Shade Timothy Shutters have been named co-valedictorians of the Seymour High School graduating class. They will speak at the commencement exercises at 6 p.m. today, Saturday, May 25, in the physicaleducation building at the school on Community Dr. Parents of the top students are Mr. and Mrs.

John Frey of Seymour Rt. 6 and 1 Shedrick and Joyce Shutters of 1080 Holly Dr. in Seymour. Both are members of the National Honor Society where she is president and he is vice president. He is a member of the student council which she also serves as president.

A 10-year 4-H member and a Junior Leader, she has played varsity volleyball and basketball, is president of Immanuel Lutheran Church youth group and is employed at the Dairy Queen restaurant in Seymour. She is majoring in mathematics at Indiana University. Shutters is a member of the Senior Steering Committee, president of the Science Club and a Boys State delegate. He played varsity tennis. He has been accepted in the honors division of Indiana University where he plans to major in physical or computer science.

Stephen McGrew will direct the symphonic band for a concert and prelude before the processional for commencement. The national anthem will be led by Douglas Lee Prather and David Lawrence Ulmer with Vanessa Brewer as accompanist. Sara Ann Zarick, president of the senior class, will give the welcome before an invocation and message by the Rev. Frederick Mildenburger of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Dudleytown. Teresa Marie Muster will perform a vocal solo, "'Climb Every before the valedictorians give their presentation.

A trombone solo will be played by John Marvin White after their talk. Principal David R. Shaw will present the class for acceptance by the school superintendent, Dr. Robert M. Mahan.

Diplomas will be presented 1 Oakley M. Allen and Marvin by White, school board members. Paul and Mary Lou Matthew Gregory Golden Anniversary The celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary of Paul B. and Mary Lou Matthew Gregory of Seymour is to be held at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Center in Seymour from 2 to 4 p.m. June 9. They were married at the Old First Baptist Church on June 5, 1935.

Mr. Gregory retired as district sales manager in this area for Moorman Mfg. Co. of Quincy, Ill. Mrs.

Gregory retired from Indiana State Highway Dept. as Seymour subdistrict clerk. Academic and attendance awards were presented to Medora students during a ceremony Friday, May 17, at the school. Receiving awards were Travella Thompson, Science; Dawn Ault, Computer; Dee Ann McPike, Math; Missy Miser and Tracey Stidam, Beta Club New Member awards. Home Economic awards went to Lori Boling, senior; Lavella Loudermilk, junior; Mary Smith, sophomore; Dee Ann McPike, eighth grade; and Bobbie Sue Nolan, seventh grade. Receiving English awards were Lori Boling, Kathy Gorbett, Dawn Ault, Andy Davidson, Maria Nolan, Kristie Melissa Morris, Travella Thompson and Bobbie Sue Nolan. Other awards were to Maria Nolan, Spanish Monica Davidson, Jacki Freeman, Sharon Lawson, Missy Miser and Paula Raby, band seniors blankets; Angie Burton, Kathy Gorbett, Ron Minton, Cindy Mitchell, Tina Reynolds and Melana Thompson, band juniors trophies.

Band sophomore medalists were Joe Beavers and Stacie Speer. Freshman instrument pins went to Dee Dee Achelpohl, Jamie Beavers, Kelly Burton, Danny Duncan, Maria Nolan, Jeff Reynolds, Shannon Speer and Kenny Turner. Eighth-grade band year guards were presented to Susan Donnells, Joetta Downs, Veronnica Gray, Christian Huffman, Dee Ann McPike, Leah Reynolds, Tracy Reynolds, Smith, Kim Sons, Travella Thompson and Renee Utley. Band seventh-grade pins were awarded to Shannon Auffenburg, Sara Bennett, Pat Burton, LaWanda Collins, Chandra Hall, Bobbie Sue Nolan, Reynolds, Cindy Williams and Brandy Willis. The John Phillip Sousa Senior Band Award was given to Paula Raby, the director's award to Dee Ann McPike, the Drum Major three-year to Mitchell and the Pompon Awards to Jacki Freeman, Tina Reynolds, Melana Thompson and Shannon Speer.

History awards went to Travella Thompson and Tiffany Smith, while the most-improved history awards were presented to Junior Bowers for seventh grade and History Award to Frankie Earl for eighth grade. The Scholarship Award was presented to Pat Burton, the geography award to Eric Douglas, business awards to Lori Boling and Shawn Bowers for 60 words; Lavella Loudermilk for 70 words, Cindy Mitchell for 50 words and Kathy Gorbett for accounting. The Alumni Merit Scholarship Award, the Hoosier Scholarship Award of $500 and the Tri-Kappa sorority $1,000 award were presented to Chip Napier. Robert Smith received the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award. Spelling-bee award winners were Melissa Morris and Chandra Hall.

Perfect Attendance Awards for juniors were received by Lavella Loudermilk and Ron Minton; for 10th grade, Jerry Acton and Bobby Brown; for ninth-grade, Eric Douglas and Darin Downs; for eighth-grade, Matt Gibson; for sixth grade, Amy Loudermilk, Keith Robbins, Jason Downs and Sam Huffman. Last Sunday, Leona and Marshall called on Marvin and Gabi Blake of Freetown.

Vera and George Robbins attended the commencement program held at Brownstown Central High School last Sunday. Their daughter, Cathy, is home from Purdue University and has resumed her work at Bartholomew County Hospital for the summer. Visiting Hazel and Dan Smallwood last Sunday were Judy, and Larry Goforth as well as Lloyd and Ethel Smallwood and Pat of Houston. On Sunday night, Verna May Lewis of Phoenix, called on Hazel and Dan. Earl and Fairney Bowman visited Hazel and George Adams on Wednesday.

Clara Roll, Esther Kirts and Gail Davers went to Columbus on Wednesday, May 15 and visited Josephine Ruth and Marty Roll. They all went out to dinner. Andy, Linda, David and Sheila Roll, all of Brownstown, called on Myrtle Roll last Sunday afternoon. Tobey Laney of Clearspring spent Saturday night and Sunday with Callie and Charley Laney. Ike Whittredge of Brownstown called on Callie and Charley Sunday.

Brenda and Stan Guthrie went to Bedford on Tuesday to do some shopping. Brenda tells us, at this writing, that she was getting ready for a garage sale. She also tells us they recently remodeled their bathroom. Carolyn and Tom Canaday and son, Nicolas of Seymour called on Eva and Francis Fleetwood last Sunday. Eva and Francis attended the commencement program at Brownstown last Sunday.

Their son, Kent, graduated. Judy and Larry Goforth also attended the commencement program in Brownstown last Sunday. Their son, Brad, graduated. Later, about 50 friends and family members were at Judy and Larry's to help Brad celebrate his graduation. Last Saturday, Judy and daughter, Tracey, went shopping in Seymour.

Tracey spent last Saturday night with her friend, Mel Soladine in Brownstown. Shona Hanner, daughter of Phillip and Mary Hanner, graduated from Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee, on Monday, May 13. Shona is now home with her family for a few weeks. Attending Shona's graduation were Phillip and Mary Hanner and children, Tam and Doug, Rev. and Mrs.

Sidle, Shona's grandparents; and a friend, Carolyn Pruitt. Shona, along with Rev. and Mrs. Sidle, went to Ohio for the Mt. Vernon Nazarene College graduation on Monday, May 20.

They also visited several relatives in the Newark, Ohio, area. Last Saturday, Denny Hanner of Medora called on Phillip and Mary Hanner. Phillip and Mary attended Brad Goforth's graduation party last Sunday afternoon. A reminder, the Kurtz cemetery meeting will be held beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 26 at the cemetery; if raining, meeting will be at the Kurtz Nazarene Church.

Ruth J. Hall Hosts for the affair will be their eight sons and their families. The sons are Paul M. of Indianapolis; Dr. Richard 0., a plastic surgeon, Cincinnati, Ohio; Russell D.

and Hubert Seymour; Roland Crothersville; Roger Louisville, Marion at home; and Lynn Waldorf, Md. There are 12 grandchildren. Friends, relatives, neighbors and former associates are invited. The couple requested no gifts..
