Last Saturday about noon our community was greatly shocked by au accident that occurred at a culvert about one mile southwest of town and just east of A. Red-ding's. A traction engine owned by Gillespie was being moved from near Ettaville where a job of threshing had just been completed. Whit and Oliver Gillespie, cousins, aged agout 21 and 16 years, respectively, were running the engine. Arriving at the bridge which is about 20 feet long and about' 10 feet above the bed of the ditch, there was some discussion as to the safety of trying to cross with the engine, but as the timbers seemed sound, it was decided to make the trial.

The middle of the bridge had been reached when without warning the timbers gave way, and the heavy machine was hurled to the bottom of the ravine, turning partially over as it fell. Whit, the elder boy, jumped clear over his cousin when the bridge fell, and barely got out of the way. Oliver fell under the machine, and was probably instantly killed, but whether killed by the force of the fall or by the steam that was escaping rom.thejboiler, will never be known, as the escaping steam hid him from the view of the horrified spectators for a moment His body was literally cooked from head to foot, and a gaping wound in his side which it is thought was caused by some part of the machinery penetrating it, would alone have caused his death. The body was brought to town and placed in Tankie Tener's undertaking rooms, where it was prepared for burial, and on Sunday fat 11 iOO o'clock, the mangled July 14, 1894, were furnished us by Geo.
