Sunday, Nov. 12, 1967 THE SHREVEPORT TIMES Today For Local UDC Founder Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today in Osborn Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Birdie Scott Blackman, 94-year-old daughter of a Confederate Army Solider and first president the Shreveport Chapter of the. United Daughters of the Confederacy which he organized.

She died in her home at 3033 Samford Ave. at 9:30 p.m. Friday after a sudden illness. Dr. J.

Frank Alexander, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, of which she was a member, will officate at the services, and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. A native of Benton who lived in Shreveport for 92 years, Mrs. Blackman was the daughter of the late Dr. J. J.

Scott and Lenora Cullen Scott of Shreveport. She was the widow of Dr. R. H. Blackman, who practiced medicine here until his death in 1930, and was retired from real estate business.

Her father was the first of three generations of doctors in her family, and she organized the local UDC chapter after serving four years in the Confederate Army. The chapter was founded on July 6, 1898, and the late Capt. Peter Youree gave the first president her membership pin. On June 9 Mrs. Blackman was among 10 UDC members honored, two post humously, for 50 years of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Surviving are two sons, William M. Blackman and John S. Blackman, and one daughter, Mrs. James B. Hipple, all of Shreveport; a sister, Mrs.

George Wolz of Marshall, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Robert H. Adams, Robert H. Curry, Al Ingouf, Joe Peyton Sam Fullilove Jr. and Percy Browne.

Shreve City Store Hit By Burglars Burglars ranascked the Lee Martins Men's Store, 1223 Shreve City, overnight and made off with merchandise valued at about $3,500, police said. TEXAS FURNITURE AVE. ZING COLOR KNITS JOE T. CAWTHORN Joe Cawthorn Succumbs in Lake Charles Joe Mansfield T. Cawthorn, 56-year-old attorney and former state senator representing DeSoto and Caddo parishes, died at 5:32 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Hospital, Lake Charles, of unknown causes.

Owner of Melody Ranch at moth. Finance Shreveport, Mansfield, and operator, of MamMr. Cawthorn had become stricken in Lake Charles while on business a.m. Friday, and was hospitalized. Funeral services are pending at Drewett's Funeral Home, Mansfield.

Active in Louisiana politics since 1932, and a close of U.S. Sen. Russell Long and the late Gov. Huey Long, he made an unsuccessful bid last Saturday for a seat in the Louisiana House of Representatives, but was victor for a slot on the 38th District Democratic Executive Committee. He represented Caddo, and DeSoto parishes as a member of the Louisiana State Senate from 1940-44, during which time he served as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, and made an unsuccessful bid in the race for state attorney general.

A native of Selma, he was a graduate of Oak Grove High School and received his law degree from Louisiana State University in 1932. He was an oil investor. In October, 1964, he was named head of the Johnsonfor-President organization for DeSoto Parish, and was also named to the 4th District Democratic steering committee. Survivors include his widow, the former Merle Sloan of Grand Cane, and a 13-year-old daughter, Melody Merle; and one sister, Mrs. Henry Jones of Stanley.

Four Killed In Kentucky Auto Crash HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (UPI) Four persons were killed and a child injured Saturday in a two-car collision on rain-slick U.S. Route 41 north of here. Kentucky State Police identified the victims as Noble Garth Boswell, 24, of Gary, Mrs. Ruby Jean Belew, 27, and her daughter, Mary Lee, 11, both of Woodlawn, and Robert Draper 23, of Williamsport, Ind.

Another of Mrs. Belew's children, Karen Lynn, 3, was hospitalized here. 8 Mrs. Belew and her children were en route to Gray, from Alabama with Boswell, and Draper was in the southbound car driven 8by Ray 8Siggers, Evansville, Ind. Siggers told investigating offilers Boswell's car skidded sideways into his lane just after topping a hill.

He said he was unable to avoid the collision. Both cars caught fire from the impact and Boswell's car was destoryed. The three adults were dead at the scene and the older child died later at a hospital here. Solutions To Poverty, Crime Urged LITTLE ROCK (AP) Retired Rear Adm. Richard N.

Antrim of Mountain Home Saturday called for veterans to band together to find solutions to problems of poverty, crime and violence.
