His housemates, about a dozen other elderly veterans, were taken to Limestone Medical Center most of them just shaken up by the twister that tore through the rural outskirts of Groesbeck, a town of about 4,300 east of Waco.

Authorities declined to identify the victim, saying his family had not yet been notified. Limestone County officials said the tornado that stretched at least 10 miles through the west central part of the county damaged or destroyed at least 30 homes. In all, about 20 people were injured some severely and countless livestock carcasses were scattered across the county. Up to 10 tornadoes touched down in Central and West Texas Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Tornadoes were sighted in Coryell, Erath, Limestone and Bosque counties between 1 p.m.
