DEATHS ELSEWHERE The Associated Press TOKYO Takeshi Araki, the former mayor of Hiroshima who made a mission of urging the world to abolish riuclear weapons, died today of pneumonia. He was 78. The four-term mayor became known for the official appeals he made to the world every August 6 to ban nuclear bombs.

On that day in Hiroshima in 1945, Mr. Araki lived through the world's first atomic bomb attack, the first of two by United States forces that led to Japan's surrender In World War II. Mr. Araki served as mayor from 1975 to 1991. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.
