Eleanor M. Currie, 89, of Clay died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003 in Faith Medical Care Center. She was born March 4, 1914 in Detroit. She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Rich Dzukola) Tucker; sons, Don and Bill Currie; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her sister, Laura Mead.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Anchorville. Fr. David Burgard of Immaculate Conception Church will officiate. Burial will be in St.

Catherines Cemetery, Algonac. Visitation will be 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in Gilbert Funeral Home, Algonac and 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. J.

Maurice Groat MELVIN J. Maurice age 91, of Melvin, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003 in The Villages near Lady Lake, Florida. He was born July 13, 1912 in Melvin to Lansing and Anne Groat. He married Anne Murray on April 7, 1934.

Maurice worked for General Motors and retired after 22 years at in Flint. He also farmed and did construction work of all kinds for many many years. Working was his hobby. He was a member Melvin Baptist Church and served 19 years on the Melvin School Board. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Anne Groat; three children, Ronald (Joyce) Groat of Lady Lakes, FL, Maureen (Dick) Stableford of Dumfries, VA and Jack (Elizabeth) Groat of Canton 11 grandchildren; 15 great and five great-great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five siblings, brothers, Dorman, Vaughn and Irving and sisters, Ermine "Erma" and Velma. A gathering for family and friends will be 6 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at Carman Funeral Home in Brown City. Funeral services will be 11 a.m.

Saturday at the Melvin Baptist Church with Pastor William Norris officiating. Pallbearers will be Dave Donoho, Tim Groat, Dave Groat, Alan Groat, Duke Stableford, Scott Stableford and Bryan Stableford. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Melvin. McGuffin Virginia L. McGuffin FORT GRATIOT TWP. Vir- ginia L. McGuffin, 78, of Fort Gratiot went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003.

She was born to the late Herman and Anna Barck on March 27, 1925 in Smiths Creek, and married Dale R. McGuffin on June 28, 1941. The couple were blessed with 18 children in their 49 years together. He died on April 21, 1990 in Barton City, MI where they had retired and lived for 10 years. Virginia was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Port Huron where she was a past member of the Fidalis Guild, choir, and a vacation Bible School teacher.

She enjoyed painting and needle point, but her most cherished times were spent with her children and grandchildren. She was very loved and will be missed by her seven sons and daughters-in-law, Dale (Dolly) of Niles, Pat (Becky), Mike (Lisa), Don (Marie), Ron (Shelly) and Joseph, all of Port Huron, Lee (Marlena) Memphis; her ten daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Lashbrook of Port Huron, Sue (Jack) Fuller and Donna (Dave) Stuben, both of Columbus, Bonnie (Dennis) Schmidt of St. Clair, Kathy Burkhardt and (Dale Schmidt) of Richmond, Debbie (Walt) Woods of Fort Gratiot, Vicki (Harry) Hall of Port Huron, Teri (Bob) McIntyre of Ruby, Nancy (Tom) Friedsburg of Riley Center and Becky (Mike) Babcook of Sarnia, Ontario; grandchildren; 94 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her step-mother, Geraldine Mazie of Detroit; and very dear friends, Donna and Ernie Gracey of The Rev. Smiths Creek. of Port She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her son, Jerry Lee; two grandchildren, Jordan Marie and Dale Ray McGuffin II; her brother, Lewis; six sisters, Marie West, Elizabeth Smith, Elsie Storey, Lillian Hudson, Billie Hudson and Beverly Barck.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 in Faith Lutheran Church. The Rev. Timothy Eichberger, Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today and Friday and on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at the church.

The honor of serving as pallbearer will be shared by her sons-in-law, Dennis Schmidt, Jack Fuller, Walt Woods, Dave Stuben, Tom Friedsburg and Ernie Gracey. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob McIntyre, Dale Schmidt, Mike Babcook and Harry Hall. Contributions may be made in Virginia's memory to Faith Lutheran Church or A.R.C of St. Clair County. Preston Portis Sr. PORT HURON Preston Portis age 67, of Port Huron, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 8, 2003 in Henry Ford Hospital after a brief illness. He was born March 16, 1936 in Stonewall, Mississippi to Jonah and Ruth Portis. He moved to Smiths Creek in 1943 and has lived in the area since that time.

He worked for 25 years with the Ford Motor Company as a Quality Inspector and was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by four sons, Preston Portis Jr. of Port Huron, Jonas (Roni) Portis of Fort Gratiot, Anthony (Tracy) Portis of Clinton Twp. and Ron McClarty of Port Huron; two daughters, Carla Smith of Port Huron and Cassandra (Bob) Thigpen of Ohio; three sisters, Naomi Manns of Port Huron, Alline Portis of Port Huron, Patricia (The Rev. Clarence) Duckworth of Mt.

Marian Pulcher Roeseler ST. CLAIR Marian Pulcher Roeseler, age 86, of St. Clair passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2003. She was born to Jacob and Marie Schick Dec.

15, 1916 in Peoria County, Illinois. She graduated from Dunlop High School in 1934 and graduated from Brown's Business College in Peoria in 1937. Marian moved to Detroit in 1937 and married James Pulcher on July 27, 1938. She retired from Warran Truck Dio of Chrysler Corp. March 31, 1973, after 27 years.

She moved to the St. Clair area in 1970 with her husband. He passed away on May 3, 1975. Marian married Carl Roeseler on Sept. 30, 1989.

She was a loyal member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of St. Clair and served as financial secretary for 17 years. She was an enthusiastic bowler and was a member of the St. Clair River Queens League for 25 years and served as it's secretary for a number of years. She was a member of WOTM of Port Huron.
