Horner is the 13th traffic fatality in Lee County this year, compared to nine traffic deaths here at this time last year. Horner was one of seventeen persons who died in weekend traffic accidents in A Fort Myers man died Jarly Sunday in a car-train accident on Bayshore Road. Retha Faye Johnston, 17, of Wauchula died when her car rolled off a wooden bridge on Manley Road two miles east of her hometown in Hardee County Saturday. Frank Joseph McMackin, 56, of Naples was killed Saturday in a two-car headon collision at the 52 mile post on Alligator Alley in Broward County. Michael F. Miner, 17, of Brooksville died Saturday when a car struck his motorcycle on U.S. 41 1.2 miles north of his hometown.

Jessie Eugene Smith, 47, of Orlando was killed Saturday on Interstate 75 west of Ocala when his car smashed into the rear of a slower-moving tractor trailer. James Jereon Gray, 31, of Winter Garden, died Saturday when he lost control of his car in Orange County and it rammed into an apartment building. the state, including two elderly women killed when their car was struck broadside on U.S. 90 near Grand Ridge in Jackson County, the Florida Highway Patrol reported. Bernice Watson Brock, 58, of Sneads, and Mettie Law-son, 64, of Grand Ridge, died Saturday when their car pulled out from a dirt road into the path of a westbound car, troopers said.

The patrol gave the following account of other weekend fatalities: Two unidentified persons burned to death Saturday on State Road 600 1.5 miles west of Tampa in Pinellas County when their vehicle was struck from the rear and the gas tank burst into flames. James Clifford Cooper, 48, of Panama City was killed Sunday in a two-car head-on collision on State Road 22 in Bay County 6.6 miles east of Callaway. Marsha Elmore, 22, of Tampa, died Sunday in Hillsborough County when the car she was riding in swerved to avoid an animal and overturned twice. Troopers are withholding the name of a pedestrian killed in Boynton Beach early Sunday pending notification of relatives. The name of a pedestrian killed Friday night in Fort Lauderdale is also being withheld pending notification a ditch.
