T. W. Sullivan. man whose name heads this article has recently received the Democratic nomination for Senator in the 26th district composed of Carroll and Montgomery counties. In this nomination the Democracy of the district has done itself great credit and in doing so, it has also honored one of its truest, best and most worthy young men.

Mr. Sullivan is indeed and in truth a self-made man. Born and reared upon the farm he learned in early life to know the wants, the needs and the requirements of that honorable class of American citizenship upon whose efforts the success of every branch of legitimate business depends. Having entered the arena of life but a short while before the sad fratricidal conflict which scattered ruin throughout our fair sunny Southland he was deprived by the poverty which cursed the South, of those advantages of mental training in early life which are so essential to well-developed and properly cultivated intellectual maturity. But by great pertinacity of purpose untireing energy and devotion of duty he converted obstacles into opportunities and secured an education for himself, and the morning of his manhood he stands the peer of any man of his years in the State.

He is an honor to the people from whom he came and among whom he has cast his lot. His record in the State Legislature for the past six years stand for itself and is a monument to his fidelity to the trust reposed in hirn. That he will be elected would be and insult to the sturdy Democracy of his district to question. He ras won the nomination after a most spirited "contest and is now entitled to all the honors incident to a successful issue. Greenwood Enterprise.

A splendid crowd greeted the Georgia Minstrels at the Opera-house last night, and long before 8 o'clock the house was packed to its utmost capacity.

Both gelleries were turned over to the colored people and there was not room for one more on either side and many were turned back being unable to get a seat. The citrtain rose promptly at 8 o'clock amid loud applause and from beginning to end of the performance there were continuous roars of laughter. The singing and dancing were very good and everybody seemed pleased. If the Georgia Minstrels again visit Vicksburg they will have another crowded house. September TnYesiments.

The following is the weekly Weather-Crop Bulletin of the Mississippi State Weather Service, co-operating with the United States Bureau, for the week ending Saturday 8cpt.

12, 1S91 Weather conditions during the past week remained nearly as they were before, ami crop prospects are not much changed. The weather has been such as is usual in the latter part of September A few local showers have fallen. The temperature averaged about 75 degrees too low for rapid develop ment 01 young truit on tne cotton plant. Reports show that, in addition to a fine corn crop, an unusually large crop of hay has been saved. Local showers reported from about one foruth of the are a of the state will benefit the gardens, pastures and fall crops.

In other sections these are still suffering great injury from drouth. There has been no actual improvement in the prospects of the cotton crop, and in the southern part of the Statenone seems possible. Drouth, rust and cool weather have there cut off the crop, and it will soon be harvested. In the Delta, and in some sections north tuere is hope that a late season would ma ture some of the top fruit. The1 caterpillar has not been reported as damaging the crop this week but in the central parts of the state the boll-worm is doing a good deal of injury, attacking even grown bolls.

The estimate of the falling off in the prospects of the cotton crop since August 1st are still given at figures varying from 20 to 40 per cent in aitterent locations. R. B. FULTON. Director.
