Mackle was "told what to do." The captain spoke at noon or shortly afterward as significant when asked about possible ransom developments, but the time came and went and police declined to say another word. Barbara, who is 5-10 and weighs 120, made good marks at Emory where she has been studying economics. She is listed as a junior. Her only club apparently was Delta Delta Delta, a social sorority. She had been living in a dormitory the past year.

Her father, Robert, and his brothers, Frank Jr. and Elliott, pioneered the building of large, fully pre-planned communities in Florida which have attracted thousands of families, mostly retired people, from the North. The Mackles got started in 1950-52 when they built the first 1,000 homes on Key Bis-cayne, the island off Miami which is expected to become the "Winter White House" of President-elect Nixon. Later, they joined with General Development Corp. in development of the city of Port Charlotte on the Florida Gulf coast, where they sold 21,000 lots in the first two months.

Building inexpensive homes foi the $10 down and $10 a month class, the Mackles went on to develop Port St. Lucie, Port Malabar, Sebastian and Vero Beach Highlands. In the final four years they headed General Development, they racked up sales of $250 million and after-tax profits of nearly $28 million. In. 1961, the brothers sold their interests in General Develop-1 ment and launched the building of a large luxury resort on Marco Island off the Gulf coast, the city of Deltona in central Florida and Spring Hill near Tampa Bay.

County School Building Plan Given Approval A construction start fund for Lee County, $500,000 in borrowed money, was given State Department of Education approval in Tallahassee Tuesday. The approval clears the way for opening of bids Friday for the second phase of Cypress Lake High School.

The bids probably will be acted upon at a special School Board meeting next Monday. The addition is expected to cost about $1.6 million and total about 90,000 square feet of space. It will complete the high school. Part of the borrowed money is to back up the bid openings, pending receipt of tax funds earmarked for the purpose. Another part is to be used in site acquisition for an elementary school planned south of the city, also pending receipt of tax money.

Chairman Gilbert H. Moore of the School Board said that the funds will speed the county construction program by several months. The money and time saved by proceeding now will greatly offset the interest on the borrowed funds, he said. Construction costs are increasing monthly, and the school will not be available until at least a year from start of construction. If a bid is approved Monday, it may be possible to begin construction by early January.

Qfrom Page I He put a rag or cloth soaked in chloroform over her face, made her turn around and then the boy who was about 12, she thought tied her hands and feet with white cord. He taped her mouth with adhesive tape. The mother said she swooned or fainted, but that she was able to free herself in about five minutes and called police. Her daughter was wearing her red and white checkered flannel nightgown. Struggle Reported Witnesses in another room told police of hearing what "sounded like a struggle" in the Mackle suite but saw no one.

Detective Capt. J. L. Smith said Mrs. Mackle reported the smaller kidnaper had on a mask, but there was some apparent conflict in the account of another "witness." After the kidnaping, Mrs.

Mackle telephoned a man described by police as the "victim's finance, witness Number 2" and driver of a white Ford. The police report listed him as Stewart Hunt Woodward, an Emory student. Woodward, the report said, was at the motel a few hours earlier and "noticed a white male driving a late model Buick or Olds, color blue, hanging around the area and staring at him. When he looked back at him, subject ran and got in vehicle and left." FBI agents kept newsmen from talking with Mrs. Mackle, about 50, but she was seen once laying on a bed in her room.

Penal authorities were baffled about where to confine her. A government psychiatrist told Judge Sir Ralph Cusack there was no properly secure treatment center in the entire country for such an unusual case.

Mary was being held at a children's home while officials pondered her case, but a psychiatrist told newsmen she had fights with other children at the home while awaiting trial. Mary's friend and neighbor, Norma Joyce Bell, 13 the two girls are not related was acquitted of killing the boys, Martin Brown, 4, and Brian Howe, 3. The prosecution described Mary as a Svengali who manipulated her older friend. Norma although technically free, was ordered to undergo further psychiatric treatment. WBBH, Channel 20 on the ultra-high frequency band of your television set, will go on the air officially at 6 p.m. tonight. General Manager Joe Buer-ry said Tuesday that the first hour of programming will be used to introduce the staff and talk about the new station. At 7 p.m., the station will join the National Broadcasting Co. for the Huntley-Brinkley news report.

WBBH-TV received the approval of the Federal Communications Commission Tuesday to go on the air this evening, Buerry said. Howard Hoffman, secretary of the new station, went Washington to present to the FCC the station's readiness to broadcast. His presentation was made at 11 a.m. Monday. Authorization to go on the air was given by telegram at 9 a.m.

Tuesday afternoon weatherman predicted a low of 54 for this morning and a high of 74 this afternoon with the warming trend expected to continue Thursday.

Tuesday's warming trend sent golfers back to the courses and pier and bridge fishermen returned to favorite spots. Fuel oil and propane gas distributors worked a rush schedule to fill orders called in Monday by frantic homeowners. Robert G. Curtis, county farm agent, said, "There was some additional crop damage Monday night and Tuesday morning. Although the official temperature recorded was 37 it was as much as 10 degrees lower than this in some low ground areas.

"Plants that had their tops burned by frost and freeze Monday morning were burned and frozen even deeper Tuesday morning. Still, we are fortunate the temperature didn't get any lower because many plants that got by Monday morning were able to get by again Tuesday morning." Curtis said farmers would have preferred not to have the clear day and sunny skies Tuesday because of further damage to tender plants. "A cool and cloudy day would have been ideal to give the damaged plants a chance to recover," he said. "The freeze and frost that wounded plants Monday and Tuesday mornings left plant tissues ruptured and much more susceptible to being dried out and hardened by the warm, direct rays of the sun." Curtis said the Tuesday morning frost and freezing did additional damage to stake tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, watermelons and eggplants. He added he was misunderstood Monday when he said 25 per cent of the open field flower crop was damaged Monday moming, but meant that 25 per cent of the chrysanthemums with open blooms were damaged by the cold and frost.

"This 25 per cent with open blooms is a very small percentage of the total flower crop," he said. "Here in SHOPPING DAYS til CHRISTMAS The Easy-Handling ft. gets the job adds to the FUN! Buerry said test patterns broadcast over the past several days have been received well by many people who have only the built-in UHF antennas. If there is a fadeout or other trouble on color reception, it probably means an outside antenna is required, he said. All cable television companies have been notified that WBBH will go on the air at 6, Buerry said, and will be ready to pick up the NBC programming carried WBBH in place of WFLA and WCKT National Broadcasting Co. programs. The FCC requires cable antenna systems to use programs from the nearest outlet of a network.
