He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Clara Taylor, two brothers, Edward and William Taylor; a sister, Lillian Johnson; and a grandson, Scott R. Taylor.

Private family services will be Monday. Conducting the services will be Dr. John R. Loggan of Trinity Baptist Academy in Imlay City and Pastor Steven Pace of Faith Baptist Church in Ruby. Burial will be in Walker Township Cemetery in Afton.

DEATHS ELSEWHERE FROM TIMES HERALD WIRE SERVICES Robert Bloch LOS ANGELES Robert Bloch, the prolific pulp fiction author whose novel Psycho became the classic Alfred Hitchcock horror film, died of cancer Friday. He was 76. Using straightforward prose, Mr.

Bloch described everyday worlds that turned out to be anything but And he liked surprise endings. In one of his most famous stories, The Hellhound Train, the Devil gives a man a watch to stop time, but the man cannot decide when to use it At the last moment, as he rides a Hell-bound train filled with drunks, whores and gamblers, he uses the watch and rides on for eternity. Although Mr. Bloch wrote fantasies, mysteries, essays and humor, he is best known for his chilling psychological novels of suspense. Mr.

Bloch is survived by his wife, Eleanor Alexander. Leonard Feather LOS ANGELES Leonard Feather, a jazz critic, composer, musician and author of the Encyclopedia of Jazz, died of pneumonia Thursday. He was 80. In 1964, Mr. Feather won the first Grammy ever awarded for journalism by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

Mr. Feather had been a critic since the early 1930s, when his byline first appeared in London's Melody Maker magazine. His work frequently appeared in the Los Angeles Times and he wrote for magazines such as Playboy and Esquire as well He played piano on records with Louis Armstrong, Jack Teagar-den and many others, and his compositions were recorded by artists such as Armstrong, B.B. King, Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington. He is survived by his wife, Jane, and a daughter, Lorraine.

Forrest Sagendorf SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. Forrest C. "Bud" Sagendorf, the Popeye cartoonist whose art appears daily in newspapers worldwide, died of cancer Thursday. He was 79. Mr.

Sagendorf started out as the assistant to Popeye creator Elzie C. Segar, who began the strip 'in 1929 under the title Thimble Theater. After Mr. Segar's death in 1938, other, cartoonists drew Popeye for two decades before Mr. Sagendorf took over in 1958 and introduced new characters, including Granny and Dufus.

King Features said the repeats of old Sagendorf strips will continue during the week, while another cartoonist will draw the Sunday feature. Mr. Sagendorf is survived by his wife, Nadia, and three children. George J. Davis MARINE CITY George J.

Davis, 87, died Sept 23, 1994. He was born Sept 15, 1907, in Samia, Ontario. He married Lucille S. Borowiak Nov. 18, 1925, in Detroit She preceded him in death Dec.

20, 1934. He had been employed as a bus driver with East China Transportation and also worked as a bartender at Kazan's "21" Bar. He was an avid fisherman. He was a World War II veteran of the Sea Bees. Surviving are his sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Lofton Harrison of St Clair; sisters-in-law, Louise Huntley and Amy Thomas of Marine City; nieces and nephews, Jerry Duchene and Rene Osterland, Carol and Richard Lamphier and Ed Thomas; great-niece and nephew, Nicole and Dean Hart and several other nieces and nephews; his beloved dog, Nellie.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday in the Bower-Rose Funeral Home in Marine City followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass in Holy Cross Catholic Church. The Rev. James R.

Hardie SPEAKER TOWNSHIP Gloria Hardie, 58, died Thursday, Sept 22, 1994, in McKenzie Memorial Hospital. She was bom April 24, 1936, in Red Wing, Minn. She was a member of Jeddo United Methodist Church. She was employed with Medi-Lodge of Yale for 18 years and had 30 years of service to the Blue Water Council Boy Scouts She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carla R. and Mark Tuttle; son and daughter-in-law, Michael J.

and Susan Hardie; grandchildren, Jordan Tuttle, Alaina Hardie and Sean Hardie; former husband, John C. Hardie; brothers, Jack Swanson and Neil Swanson; many friends and co-workers. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Jeddo United Methodist Church, 8533 S. Wildcat Road, Jeddo.

Memorial donations can be made to Jeddo United Methodist Church. Herman 'Buzz' Hoffman LEXINGTON Herman "Buzz" Hoffman, 70, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 1994, in St John Hospital in Grosse Pointe. He was born Jan. 29, 1924, in Roseville.

He retired as a master cabinetmaker from Beauty Craft Supply Co. in Troy and was a member of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners 118. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 255 in He is survived by sons, Thomas of Farmington Hills, James of Wixom and stepson, Ronald Allen of Florida; a daughter, Patricia Hoffman Sowder of Hunts viUe, five grandchildren; a sister, Helen Rose of Elkhart, fiancee and special friend, Mary Gaw of Lexington. He was bom Feb. 13, 1926, in Marine City, a son of Albert and Mildred Smith. He had been employed by Chris Craft for 27 years and retired from General Motors Technical Center in Warren as a mill operator after more than 20 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Theodorea; sons, Kenneth M. (Peggy) of Armada, Thomas B.

(Kimberly) of Marine City, David (Cynthia) of Emmett, Patrick (Lisa) of Chesterfield and James of New Haven; nine grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren; sisters, Shirley Kohler of Imlay City, Iverna and Barbara Barks both of Marine City and Marie Sayers of St Clair. Robert Alvin Watkins, a retired associate director of the Tulane Delta Regional Primate Center, died of cancer Sunday, Sept 18, 1994, at his home. He was 64. Mr. Watkins was bom in Port Huron, Mich, and had lived in Covington for 19 years. He earned a bachelor's degree in science from Ferris Institute in Big Rapids, Mich.

He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. He was former associate director of laboratory animal medicine at the University of Michigan. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou (Curley) Watkins; two sons, Paul and John Watkins; two daughters, Jeanette (Greg) Kissee of Dallas and Molly Ann Watkins; two grandchildren, Kaitlin Watkins and Kristin Kernan both of Mandeville, a brother, James (Bronna) Watkins of Port Huron; three sisters, Dorothy (Bud) Hodge of Dallas, Pat Dondlinger of Calgary, Alberta and Marge Relkin of Pennsylvania. Services were held Monday, Sept.

19, 1994 at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Mandeville, La. Burial was in St. Joseph's Abbey Cemetery. Arrangements were by Schoen Funeral Home, Covington. Cass Pawlak Cass Robert Pawlak BURTCHVILLE TOWNSHIP -Cass Robert Pawlak, 73, died Friday, Sept 23, 1994, in his residence.

He was born April 17, 1921, in Detroit and had been a lifelong area resident Mr. Pawlak was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War as a tank commander in Germany serving under General Patton. He received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and the Medal of Valor. He was a member of DAV Chapter 12.

He was also a member of the National Rifle Association. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Pawlak; daughters, Debra Krajewski and Linda A Wert; son and daughter-in-law, Mark R. and Laura Pawlak; son and daughter-in-law, Michael W. and Janice Pawlak; daughter, Carol H. Pawlak; grandchildren, Craig, Carrie, Jeffery, Lori, Terri, Mark Matthew and Casey; five beautiful great-grandchildren.

Services are 1 p.m. Monday in the Lakeside Cemetery Chapel. The chaplain of DAV Chapter 12 and St Clair County Veterans Council will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Moore Sept 17, 1948, in Port Huron. Mr. Baker was employed with the Mueller Brass Company for 45 years prior to his retirement in 1969. He is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons, Mr. and Mrs.

Robert (Maureen) Baker of Port Huron and Mr. and Mrs. William (Linda) Baker of Smiths Creek; a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth (Esther) Proctor of Harbor Beach; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Mr.

Frank Taylor Frank M. Taylor RUBY Frank Taylor, 84, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Sept. 21, 1994. He was born May 12, 1910, in Grundy, Ky. He married Jean Wilson March 22, 1946.

He retired from Sears, Roebuck and Co. in July 1975, after 16 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Ruby. Mr. Taylor's favorite hobbies were hunting and traveling.

He traveled extensively throughout the United States, Greece, Italy, Jordan Clarence M. Smith, 68 Mill operator ANCHORVILLE Clarence M. Smith, 68, died Friday, Sept 23, 1994. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He was a construction laborer and a member of Port Huron Local 463. He is survived by his wife, Gini Nichols of Port Huron; daughter, Lori Gates of Florida; four grandchildren, Jeremy, Tom, Brent and Nick Gates and a great-grandson, Thomas Gregory Gates; brother, Jim Nichols of Pennsylvania; sisters, Sarah Heath of Virginia, Louise Pate, Gladys Heath of Maryland and Irene Schley of Dowling, several nieces and nephews and a son by choice, Kevin Lovick of Port Huron.

It is required that all appliances and machines containing refrigerants have the refrigerant properly recovered before recycling or disposal of the appliances. Appliances designed to use Freon refrigerants, which are normally removed by the City of Port Huron during its annual Spring and Fall Cleanup program, will not be removed by the City unless the appliance is in compliance with this Federally Mandated Law. Examples of these types of equipment are: Refrigerators Freezers Dehumidifiers Air conditioning units City residents wishing to dispose of these types of appliances are required to have the refrigerants recovered by a properly licensed recovery facility. Proof of proper recovery shall be required to be posted on the appliance before being placed at the curb line for pickup.

Proof of removal may be a certified letter or sticker from the recovery facility. Residents are advised to retain a copy of that document for their records. Residents wishing additional information on this requirement may call the City of Port Huron D.P.W. at 984-9730. Residents are urged to cooperate by placing refuse on the common property line, between property owners, in approved 20 gal. containers, in a neat and orderly fashion, at the curb by 8:00 A.M. on their regular pickup day. Large and bulky items, such as stoves and furniture, which do not constitute normal refuse, will also be picked up. Appliances containing or using freon refrigerants will not be picked up unless refrigerant has been properly recovered.

Proof of proper recovery procedures are required to be attached to the appliance. All metal appliances and other properly prepared and acceptable metal products shall be removed from the boulevard area by an independent contractor. Items such as building materials, concrete, car bodies or parts, barrels, brush and earth materials will not be picked up. Questions on special problems will be answered by calling the Department of Public Works at 984-9730.
