Section SUNDAY, FEBRUARY, 23, 1958 Poge On STILL LOOKING AHEAD City's 'Street Improvement Pace Not to Slacken mam There's a future in street construction in Shreveport. With work still progressing and planned from funds of the 1955 street improvement bond issue, the Public Works Department under the direction of Commissioner II. Lane Mitchell already is looking ahead to future construction. Commissioner Mitchell noted 20 projects which need attention, a large portion of which probably would have to be paid from future bond issues for capital improvements. Heading the list is converting Midway Street into a 36-foot-wide thoroughfare (the same size as Lin-wood Avenue) from Lin wood to Jewella Road.

The major street plan of the Master Plan foresees. Midway as a wide major thoroughfare for east-west traffic. Other items in West Shreveport are paving of Broadway from Greenwood to Hollywood. 36 feet wide; Lakeshore from Curtis Lane to Jewella. 31 feet wide, and Curtis Lane from Lakeshore to the expressway, which includes opening up of Curtis Lane from Greenwood south to the superhighway, 31 feet wide.

Also listed are the improvement of Gilbert from Pierremont to 70th, 31 feet; Olive from Alexander to Youree Drive to Hopewell, 36 feet; Herndon from Alexander to Youree Drive, 31 feet; Anniston Avenue from Ockley Drive to the middle of the block between Carrollton and Pennsylvania, 31 feet.
