Hawkins of Siringo Road, Route Two, Santa Fe, was presented the Bronze Star Medal during ceremonies In Vietnam for heroism while serving with a Combined Action Platoon 10 miles south of Phu Bal, While on patrol, he discovered two enemy and opened fire on them. Suddenly an enemy grenade landed near his platoon. Cpl.

Hawkins picked the grenade and threw it away from the patrols position. He then knocked two Marines to the ground moments before the grenade exploded. Jeffus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald A. Jeffus of 1260 Canyon Road, Santa Fe, is one of more than 900 cadets who have started their sophomore year at the U. S.

Air Force Academy. During the past summer, the cadet and other members of the class of 1970 completed an intensive six-week training program at the academy and armed forces installations across the country. In the summer program the cadets were trained in survival techniques and base defense tactics in the rugged Rarripart Range area near the academy. This was followed by a combat course in infantry weapons at nearby Ft. Carson, Colo.

The final three weeks of summer training was conducted at several bases where the cadets got a first hand look at opera- Marine Finishes Combat Course CAMP PENDLETON, Calif Marine Pvt. George E. Trujillo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Juan I.

Trujillo of Taos, completed two weeks of training under simulated combat conditions in the fundamentals of day and night patroling, employment of Infantry weapons, survival methods and assault tactics at this Marine Corps base. This individual combat training is given every Marine after his graduation from recruit training. Taught by combat experienced non-commissioned officers of the Infantry training regiment here, it prepares the young Leatherneck to become part of the Marine air-ground combat team. While in the field he was taught how to use hand grenades, a compass and the principles of map reading and land navigation. He learned how to detect and disarm mines and booby traps and, while being live machine gun fire, he learned to advance safely from one point to another.

From this course, he is scheduled to go on to more advanced John Linkc Trains as Copier Pilot FT WQLTERS, Tex, -Warrant Officer Candidate John H. linke, 19, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. West, live at Mountain View Trailer Court, Santa Fe, completed a helicopter pilot course Sept.

S. AIR FORCES, Thailand-First Lt. Robert K. Waterman, son of Mr. and Mrs.

R. E. Wa terman of Los Alamos, recently took part in a highly successful mission over North Vietnam. Lt. Waterman and fellow F-4C Phantom II pilots inflicted heavy damage on the Vinh Tvy Highway bridge complex.

Despite 37mm. anti-aircraft fire, the lieutenants flight dropped their bombs right on target, rendering the bridge unserviceable. Lt- Waterman Is a member of the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing ENDS TRAINING Airman Ronald J. Ander-maxin. son of Mr.

and Mrs. James J. Ander-mann of 2209 Yucca Road, Santa Fe, has completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Tex. He is now assigned as an administrative specialist with a unit of the Air Defense Command at Tyndall AFI3, Fla.
