A medical examiner said a prelimi- nary exaiinination indicates cocaine was in the i system of the 29-year-old NFL cornerback.

Croudip was rushed to a hospital in the Atlanta suburb of Duluth after suffering seizures at his home. Police Detective Larry Walton of Gwin- nett County said an ambulance crew sum- moned by Croudip's wife found the football i player suffering seizures. His heart failed while he was being taken to Joan Glancy Hospital, where efforts to revive him failed, Walton said. Croudip was pronounced dead about 3:30 a.m., the detective said. At a news conference later Monday afternoon in Decatur at the office of Dr.

Joseph L. Burton, the medical examiner for both DeKalb and Gwinnett counties, Burton said an autopsy indicated cocaine and possibly another drug was in Croudip's system. "It strongly suggests the man's (Croudip's) death is a drug-related death," he said. EAGLES: The time frame to consummate the controversial trade with the Indianapolis Colts for offensive guard Ron Solt might be extended I beyond the NFL's Tuesday trading deadline, the Eagles announced. The Eagles acquired Solt from the Colts last week for a 1989 first-round draft pick and other undisclosed draft choices.

But Solt refused to report to Philadelphia without a $400,000 bonus to bring his new five-year, $2.6 million contract to his orig- inal demand with Indianapolis, $3 million. The Eagles contend that if Solt fails to report and take a physical, they are entitled to the return of the draft picks. The Colts have said the deal stands, whether or not Solt reports. Solt is on the Eagles' roster, although he is not being paid. He was deactivated for the Monday night game against the New York Giants.

MAC PLAYERS OF WEEK: Bowling Green quarterback Eric Smith and Central Michigan nose guard Scott Alf erink have been selected as the Mid-American Conference Players of the Week. Smith, a senior from Alma, completed 15 of 19 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns in his first start of the season to lead Bowling Green to a 42-0 victory over Ohio University. He threw touchdown passes of 94, 13 and 30 yards. The 94-yarder is the longest touchdown pass ever in a MAC game. Alf erink, a senior from Jenison, made eight tackles, four of them solos, as Central Michigan defeated Eastern Michigan 20-6.

He had three tackles for losses totaling 17 yards as Central Michigan held Eastern Michigan to 222 total yards. "Last year, I was afraid to even look for my jumper, let alone take it. -This year, if they give me that shot, I tliink I'll hit it more often." Daly went into training camp hoping to find more playing time for Rodman, who last sea-son doubled his scoring and rebounding totals. But Daly said it now appears fitting Rodman into the lineup will be a problem. Rodman's natural position is small forward, but Daly said starter Adrian Dantley looks stronger than ever at that position. Rodman also had a shot at power foward but starter Rick Mahorn showed up at camp ready to play, despite having back surgery in July.

TRACK Olympic champ skips class HOUSTON U.S. Olympic 200 meters champion Joe DeLoach announced Monday he will sit out the rest of the school year at the University of Houston while deciding on his future plans. "The best thing for me to do is sit and wait," said DeLoach, a native of Bay City. "I'll red shirt this year and make a decision later." DeLoach beat out his close friend Carl Lewis to win the gold medal in the 200 meters. Lewis dropped out of school after his 1984 Olympic performance but he said it's a "tough call" for DeLoach.

"The Olympic Games give a champion a lot of visibility and opportunities that might not be there next year," Lewis said. "The thing I've told Joe is to weigh what he wants out of it." Houston track coach Tom Tellez said he felt a red shirt year was best for DeLoach. "After the Olympic Games, it's hard to get focused again," he said. "The best thing for Joe is to red shirt and take time to make up his grains and see if anything is there for him like endorsements. "I think he needs to kick back and relax." BOXING Tyson looks for new home CLEVELAND Heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson will look for a home in the Cleveland area so he can work out at promoter Don King's training camp east of the city, a spokesman for King said Monday.

Tyson and King met for much of the day at King's home in Windsor, about an hour east of Cleveland, said spokesman Paul Sclria. sea..
