over," said Gloria Davis, the group's treasurer. "He didn't know where it was, he couldn't get it back and he didn't want to." Davis said she told Bancroft her froup would try to help find Kelly, he said she didn't think any member of the group had taken the ferret. Lansing Mm sought In assault: Police are looking for three men who assaulted a 37-year-old Lansing man Monday night. The victim was driving his car about 11:10 p.m. in the 2100 block of Forest Road when a car drove by him about 60 mph in the 25 mph zone, said Lansing police Officer Loren Glasscock.

The man yelled for the passing car to slow down. The speeding driver then turned around and pulled up in front of him. Three men got out of the car and started grabbing items from the victim's car. The victim said he feared the men would assault him, so he grabbed a crowbar from the trunk. One of the three threw a wrench at him, hitting him in the left hand.

Another passenger threw a bottle at him, cutting his right side. The victim said he would seek his own medical treatment. Lansing Man escapes with wallet: Police are seeking a man who broke into a home Sunday through the rear sliding door. The man broke into the home in the 3200 block of Stabler Street about 4:20 a.m. by taking the locked screen door off its track, said Lansing police Officer Loren Glasscock.

A 42-year-old Lansing man was in his bedroom when the burglar put a blanket over his head and asked him to give him his wallet and bank card. The intruder told him that if he looked at him, he would kill him. The man took the resident's wallet and left. The victim did not see a weapon. Compiled by staff writer Margarita Bauza and The Associated Press Lansing State Journal OWOSSO Another ferret bite, this time to a 3-year-old boy, has set off another legal battle between a ferret fan and authorities who want to kill the animal and test it for rabies.

Ralph Bancroft, 41, was arrested and jailed Sunday after refusing to turn over his 10-month-old ferret, Kelly, who bit a 3-year-old boy. The bite happened six days earlier. The ferret was apparently tied outside Bancroft's home when it bit the child, who is a neighbor. Animal officials wanted to test the ferret for rabies, which requires taking brain tissue. Shiawassee County Prosecutor Randy Colbry said Bancroft was charged with two misdemeanors and a violation of the local animal ordinance.

The charges carry a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. He said Bancroft had refused several requests to turn the ferret over to authorities. A motion to allow Bancroft out on bond without delivering the ferret was denied Monday by Circuit Judge Terrance Dignan, a court clerk said. Colbry did not know how officials found out about the injury or how serious it was. "When there's an animal bite, authorities are required to be notified," Colbry said.

Colbry said the boy has started a series of 15 rabies shots. At a court appearance Monday, Bancroft was told he could post a $500 personal bond if he turned the ferret over to health officials, but refused to do so, said William Zimmerman, a corrections officer at the county jail. WLNS-TV reported that Bancroft gave the ferret to animal rights activists. But an official with the Great Lakes Ferret Association said Bancroft told her on Thursday that he didn't know where Kelly was. "He had made up his mind that he was not going to turn the ferret.
