It will be the first minor league baseball in the Dallas-Fort Worth area since major league baseball came to the area in 1972, when the Washington Senators became the Texas Rangers. Hicks is the owner of the FRISCO (AP) The Double A Texas League baseball franchise at Shreveport will move into a $22.7 million state-of-the-art ballpar being constructed in the far north Dallas suburb of Frisco, Texas Rangers owner Tom Hicks announced Monday. Hicks, who is chairman and chief executive officer of Southwest Sports Group, made the announcement jointly with officials of Mandalay Sports Entertainment, which owns the Shreveport franchise.

Subject to approval by Rangers and also the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League. The team will play in a facility that Hicks said will become a premier jewel in minor league baseball. The ballpark will anchor a $300 million develop-1 ment project that will include more than one million square feet of new office, retail, residential and hotel space. It will also be the new location of the Dallas Stars training facility. The ballpark will feature an estimated 8,800 fixed theater-style seats with lawn areas to accommodate overflow seating of up to 1,800 people.

The stadium will have 29 luxury, suites. The stadium project was designed by David M. Schwarz, who also designed The Ballpark, in Arlington, where the Rangers play, and the American Airlines Center in Dallas, where the Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks play. Hicks said the relationship between Mandalay and Southwest Sports began during league prospects." While the name of the team will be announced at a later date, season ticket packages and Founders Club memberships for the 2003 season are already available, with ticket prices ranging from $7 to $18. The Rangers already have a Texas League farm club at Tulsa.

Hicks had said previously that it was unlikely the Tulsa franchise would be moved to Frisco, but had left open the possibility that another franchise would be moved to Frisco with affiliation to the Rangers. conversations regarding the potential development of a spring training facility in Las Vegas. "Mandalay Sports Entertainment's background as a minor league sports operator coupled with our background of successful major league entertainment and community service makes this partnership a perfect fit," Hicks said. FROM WIRE REPORTS WASHINGTON (AP) -Michael Jordan will miss the Washington Wizards' game at San Antonio on Tuesday because of a knee injury. A statement by the Wizards said Jordan will not be in uniform and will be listed as "day-to-day with inflammation in his right knee." The Wizards' four-game road trip starts against the Spurs, followed by a Thursday game at Houston. "My body is sending me messages, and I need to listen," Jordan said. "I hope to be ready to play on Thursday." Jordan had fluid drained from the knee Monday morning, but the statement said an MRI revealed "no acute injury and no surgery necessary.

Jordan last missed an NBA game because of injury on March 5, 1993, also against San Antonio, when he was hospitalized with a foot infection. Jordan hyperextended the knee during a preseason game, and this was the second time he has had fluid drained from it He has been bothered by soreness and swelling in the knee on top of the tendinitis he has suffered in both knees since he resumed workouts earlier this year. The MRI apparently showed no ligament or cartilage damage, which would have sidelined Jordan much longpr.
