Baxter Collier, deputy commissioner of the Department of Urban Renewal, City of Chicago, during recent annual Open House of Goodwill Industries. Collier, a prominent South End civic leader, is a member of the Board of Directors of Chicago Goodwill Industries. Ms. Arden expressed her total interest and surprise at the many new innovations and accomplishments that Goodwill has achieved in providing employment and upgrading new positions for trainees and graduates.

Blackburn dancers in expo spotlight Darlene Blackburn and her dance troupe will bring their traditional African dances to the International Theater Saturday, July 10, at 7: IS and 8:45 p.m., during the Chicago International Trade Exposition being held at Navy Pier, through July ig. has devoted her energies ia the last few years to developing youth for excellence in the performing arts. The present Afro-American dancers consist of a group of young and beautiful innovative dancers and drummers who have created an approach to the Art of Dance that encompasses their experience in America, the soul of their Motherland and the spirit of oneness of the Universe. The Chicago' International Trade Exposition will present entertainment and special attractions from around the world. More than 25 countries are participating.

The Exposition is billed as "America's largest Bicentennial celebration and is expected to draw more than 500,000 persons to the newly renovated Navy Pier. All entertainment and special events are free to visitors. Box office prices are and $2.50. Construction of a new Jewel Food Store Grand Bazaar and department store began last week at 115th Street and Ha Is ted, in Sheldon Heights, with an official ground breaking ceremony. Community leaders participating in the ceremony included Art Brown, Sheldon Heights Community Council; Charles Johnson, Maple Park Homeowners Association; Rev.

Samuel Jordan, Sheldon Heights Church of Christ, and Ray Adkins, administrative assistant to 34th Ward Alderman Wilson Frost. Representing Jewel Company were: Loren Gatbraith, vice president, Real Estate; Larry Belcaster, vice-president, Construction; Earl Barnes, assistant Secretary and Attorney; Henry Edwards, general manager, Grand Bazaar; Pat Burke, South Area Real Estate Manager, and Hal Raiman. vice president, Real Estate. The Jewel Food Store and department store will be 68,000 square feet and 107,000 square feet, respectively, and comparable to similar stores at 87th and Lafayette, The stores are scheduled to open in the Spring of 1977. Approximately GOO new jobs will be created full- time and part-time, people at the opening of Jewel and stores, a spokesman pointed out.

Ray Adkins, a spokesman for Alderman Frost, said the development would be a boon for employment in the area, indicating that most of the below-management level positions would be filled by area residents. Adkins said environmental considerations were discussed with Jewel officials during the planning stages in order to protect existing community property. Clarence White rites Saturday Final services for Clarence White, father of two radio and television personalities, are scheduled for 11 a.m.

Saturday at Morning Star Baptist Church. Mr. White, who celebrated his 79th birthday on June died Tuesday in Oak Forest hospital, following a lengthy illness. His seven surviving children include Wilbur. "Hi-Fi" White, of Hollywood, and the Rev, A.

Harold White, of Chicago. "Hi-fi" an entertainer and actor, is affiliated with the Redd Foxx Productions. Reverend White, pastor of a Park Baptist Church of Roseland, is featured regularly on "Rock of Ages," aired weekly over Channel 36 television, and is producer and director of "It's Time Truth sponsored by the A. R. Leak Funeral home, and broadcast each Sunday naming over WVON--Ra- dio.

Mr. White was a native of Eudora, and came to Chicago in' 1927. He and Mrs. White, the. former Ada Matthews, of Talullah, were married for 58 years.

Mr. White was employed by the Wilson.Packing Company for many years. When Wilson moved from the City, he began working for U. S. Steel until his retirement.

He was a 33rd degree Mason and a member of the Deacon Board of Central Park Church. Other surviving children include three sons, Raymond, Fred Herbert and Vernon (Pete) White;" and two daughters, Ethel Elzey and Dorothy MeBride. A brother, Amos White, and two sisters, Olivia Horton and Caldonia Green, also survive, along with 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Visitation for Mr. White will be from 3 to 8 p.m.

Fri' day at the A. R. Leak Funeral Home, 7838 Cottage, and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Morning Star Baptist Church, King Drive at 39th Street.
