Suga houses throughout the parish are grinding. The yield of cane per ton to the acre is shorter than usual, but the juice is richer in sacherine, and with high prices the cane grower should realize good results. The rapid fall of the river at this place has caused a heavy deposit of silt in the approach of the Plaque- mine Locks. There is less than fou feet of water and only vessels of light draft can get through. It is expected that the government dredge will be here in a day or two.

A. WISE, (U-18-9td-ltw) NO FOUNDATION FOR ALLEGED AUTOMOBILE DISASTER AT MINDEN. The Shreveport Times of today says: The Times yesterday published a story to the effect that two young ladles of Sibley had been killed, and one young lady and two young men of Minden had been seriously inji.red In an automobile wreck in the town of Minden Sunday afternoon. foundation of the story was contained in a letter addressed to the Shreveport Times by a person at Minden signing tne name of Rev. Frazier." This letter was mail ed at Minden, Monday, November 15, at eleven o'clock In the morning, and reached the Times late Monday evening.

According to the information con tained in this letter. Misses Mary lxm and Elsie Outz of Sibley were killed and Miss Anna May Shadow. Arthur Clayton and Hamilton Phillips seriously injured in an automobile col- ision in the suburbs of the town of Minden. It developed yesterday that there was not a word of truth in the report sent to the Times by the "Rev. Frazier." the whole matter being a hoax perpetrated on the Times Ft the expense of well known families in Minden and Sibley.

That the letter showed malice against the families in question or against the Times is evi- On receipt of "Rev. Frazier let ter, the telegraph editor of the Times endeavored to get into communication with the correspondent of the Times at Minden, but, owing to a confusion of names, did not succeed. It oc curred to him that possibly the Times correspondent, Mr. W. B.

I.ee, was out of town, and as the letter bore the signature of a person purporting to be a minister of the Gospel and gave full details of the alleged accident, he Inferred that it was a truthful report and so published It, after re-wrlting it, as requested In the letter. The letter received by the Times and signed by "Rev. Frazier," which furnished the basis of the story of the automobile collision, follows in full: Minden, Nov. 14, 1915. Shreveport Times, Shreveport La.

Dear Sirs: Please word this cor rectly and put in your paper. Misses Mary Lou Elsie Ouzts of Sibley, were killed in an automobile wreck near this place Sun. afternoon, Nov 14, 191:. Three others seriously wounded. They were out for a Joy ride with Mr.

Hamilton Phillips of Minden, La. They were in the sub urbs of Minden when the accident hap pened. They had made a quick turn around the corner of a yard and met another car coming at full speed. This car had four passengers, Miss Hallie Clayton of Minden, Glen L. R.

Shadow of Sibley, Anna May Shadow and Ar thur Clayton. There was no room for the cars to pass each other and they were upon each other Pefore they knew it. No one in this car was killed, tho Anna May Shadow and Arthur Clayton were seriously injured. Anna May was thrown from the car and escaped with a broken back. She is now in Schumpert Memorial Sani tarium in Shreveport, Ia.

She may recover. Arthur Clayton has his right arm broken and his skull fractured slightly. The cars were both running at full speed and the back wheels on both cars locked, turning Hamilton Phil lips' car over. Mary Ixu was mashed to death before the car could be mov ed, Elsie was thrown against a barb wire fence, was badly cut. She died half hour afterwards.

Hamilton Phillips got a badly fractured skull and a right leg broken. Some chance for his recovery. Mary IjOU Elsie were daughters of Mr. and Mrs. J.

M. Ouzts of Sibley, La. They were eighteen and fifteen years of age. A friend, REV. FRAZIER.

There had apparently been no attempt on the part of "Rev. Frazier" to disguise his handwriting. The letter was written in ink on note paper-there being three pages in all, written on both sides. It frequently happens that news Is furnished voluntarily to a newspaper in this way. Confirmation is always sought whenever details are lacking in such reports or when there is any reason to believe that they are incorrect or unfounded.

In this instance the details of the alleged accident apparently were complete, and there was no reason to doubt the truthfulness of the report Nevertheless, out of an abundance of caution, the Times sought to verify the correctness of the report and only failed because of an unavoidable accident. Yesterday the Times, upon learning of the hoax practiced upon it, took immediate steps to lay the matter before the postoffice inspector, with the view of ascertaining the identity of the letter writer and prosecuting him for sending this report through the mails. The Times proposes to pursue the matter until responsiiblity for the brutal misrepresentation is established and the guilty person Is 1 rought to account. ALEXANDRIA BOY IN A STORM ON A SAILING SHIP OFF SAN SALVADOR. The following letter was received by Mr.

C. F. Bode of the Pass Time Theatre: Six miles off Jucaro, Cuba, Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1915. Dear Folks: Today we dropped anchor 45 miles from the open sea up inside the Labarinto de Doce Leguas reefs, about 40 miles east of Cicnfuegos after a stormy and long voyage from Balti more.

I was seasick again north of San Salvador Island. We nearly ran to San Salvador Sunday before last during the night. The captain was so worried he could neither eat or sleep for two or three days. We passed in among the Bahamas and it is some pretty. Natives came alongside in boats and sold us shells, fruit and chickens.

I am studying some hard believe me. I now know dead rekoning or son: Default confirmed, returns of Sheriff showing personal service, note and check sued on offered in evidence, case submitted and judgment rendered in favor of plaintiff as prayed for.
