The damage to people's lives was inestimable.

It may take months for insurance adjusters to put an exact figure on the amount of damage done to property dining the early morning hours Sunday. An army of claims representatives moved into the area as soon as the immediate needs of the victims were seen to. The path of the tornado was roughly from the Central Park Subdivision northeast to the Swan Lake and Meadowview subdivisions. Cars were lifted and hurled by the storm like so many playthings. Roofs were ripped off houses like paper.

Capt. CM. Seaton of the Bossier City Police. Department estimated the tornado took only 10 to 15 to destroy what it had taken years to build. Early reports indicated the area near the intersection of U.S.

Curt McClure, a Shreveport insurance man, said the Shreveport and Bossier Independent Insurance Agents have issued an advisory to business- and homeowners who suffered property damage in the storm. McClure said the first step is for property owners to notify their local insurance agents as quickly as possible if the cost of the repairs appears to be greater than the cost of the deductible amount of the policy. The independent agents stressed mat property owners should make any necessary temporary repairs to prevent further wind and rain damage. Keep records of any costs involved, aslhey can be made part of the total insurance claim, McClure said.

"If you desire, secure a detailed estimate for permanent repairs from a reliable contractor and give it to the adjuster when he arrives," he said. It is also important to give insurance agents your location, if different from your regular address, so that adjusters can locate you.
