Caller-Times, Sat., Sept. 11, 1971 Beauty Pageant Slated Today Amid Protests Groups Fail To Sway Panel Head ATLANTIC CITY (AP) Amid protests planned by women's liberationists and antiwar veterans, Miss America 1972 will be crowned Saturday night. It will be the 51st annual Miss America Pageant--a contest in which girls from each of the 50 states try to prove on a stage they represent the best in young American womanhood. Women's liberation groups who have picketed here for three of the last four years plan to return Saturday night to dramatize their assertion that the pageant is a "meat market" and exploits woman. A group calling itself "Worn- State Revenue Gains With Cigarette Tax AUSTIN (ff) -- State Treasurer Jesse James Friday said that cigarette tax collections for August are up more than $5.4 million from 1970. The increase was due to increases in Texas cigarette taxes from 15.5 to 18.5 cents a package due to the new tax bill that became effective July 1, he said. SANDY RINGS . . . Mexican Village Set For Youths VALLE DE BRAVO, Mexico (.fs -- Officials expect at least 25,000 young people to descend on the quiet village of Valle de Bravo this weekend for a combined auto and rock festival. The village, a lakeside resort, has only five small hotels which have been booked solid since the thing was announced two weeks ago. Cuauhtemoc. Cardenas, chief of the judicial police of the State of Mexico, said 200 state police have been specially trained to handle the crowd. They will be aided by 120 troops and 50 men from the Interior Department's security force. Mayor Juan Montes de Oca and Eduardo Lopez Negrete, organizer of the festival, agreed that no liquor would be sold in the village this weekend and that beer would be sold only With meals. There will be special vigilance against drugs. The auto races Sunday are to be run on public roads around the lake. Lopez Negrete said 122 drivers have entered. Technical inspections of cars and driving tests were expected to reduce that number, Rock groups are expected from the United States to bolster the 12 Mexican groups signed to perform starting Saturday afternoon.
