Butch Browning said in a news release that the Saturday morning fire happened in a mobile home that was totally involved in flames when the Mandeville fire department arrived. Orlando Robinson, 10, Latasia Perkins, 8 and Makayla and Makaria Perkins, both 6, died in the blaze. The mother, Latasha Perkins, 29, grandmother, Maxine Perkins and step-grandfather Eddie Taylor, were injured in the fire. The women were treated at Fairview Hospital in Mandeville. Taylor was listed in critical condition at the Heart Hospital ofLouisiana.

The Fire Office said the fire originated in the bedroom. Investigators are trying to determine the cause ofthe fire, which was reported shortly after midnight. A space heater in a bedroom is suspected. the specific cause ofthe fire has not been positively determined, early indications point to an electric oil- filled radiator-type space heater that was in use in the room and which was found by investigators in the debris at the point a news release from the Fire Office said.
