Whirlaway, Favorite, Wins Famous Kentucky Derby By Six Lengths Bucks Rally Short And Texarkana Wins 12-11 To Even Series CHARLIE KERG- UE HERJ'TbDAY is Joe Kohlman, veteran pitcher, so- cured by Greenville frtm the Memphis Chicks. He should prove a valuable addition, to the Bucks if he his contract. It would give the Bucks two veterans in Red Todd and Kohlman.

When the Bucks hit .500 with a win Friday night over Tcxarkana, the directors already had sent out 10 telegrams. President Jake Stein of the local club believes in preparing. The Coblumcn need a leflhandctl pitcher and they also need more hitting power, although Friday night's 14 hits, including Bill Kramer's homer with two men on the base pnths, showed the Bucks doing right well by themselves. But changes arc going to have to be made and help should he forthcoming soon. Mickey O'Neil is a swell guy and a great manager.

That's the view of Diek Jones, Greenville's shortstop, who played for Mickey with the Jackson Generals of the Kitty league last season. O'Neil is a veteran, but still can handle young pitchers in fine style and caught 100 games last season. He's been out of active baseball for several years, but Luther Gates, Greenville insurance man, who played with Vicksburg and Pine Bluff in' the Cotton States and was sold by the Judges to the New York Yankees, is still a baseball devotee. Gates hails from Crcnshnw. He started with Memphis and was shipped to Joe Schcpncr's Vicksbtirg Bills.

Gates couldn't locate the plate and tossed 13 straight balls in his first ftturl in Billies uniform in 1931. Released by Vicksburg he joined Pine Bluff at a $50 raise and before the season closed was bought by Scout Johnny Nee at a fancy sum.
