Continued From 1C I have," Greathouse said. His effort, though, was noticed. "You can tell he put on the weight the right way," Simmons said. "He didn't just gain weight, he gained muscle mass." Said coach Tom Minkel: "He was very committed to his strength-training program. He remained very disciplined and it has paid off because he is wrestling very well." Confidence builder Greathouse had a career record of 19-30 coming into the season.

He is 9-5 this season and believes that the victory over Ward will be a precursor of things to come in the season. "(The victory) gave me a lot more confidence going against the top guys in the country," Greathouse said. "I know now that I can compete at this level." Greathouse had trailed the match 3-0 after two periods but scored two takedowns and two near-fall points in the final minute to earn the victory. "It was probably one of the bigger upsets I have seen, particularly for a wrestler who has moved up in weight so much," Minkel said. "You could see the rise in his confidence level the very next day." That has made MSU stronger especially important with this season's loaded scheduled.
