Sunday, October 23, 1977 around the province ro MPs due for pay hike Sarnia man not guilty Survey finds fuel savings exaggerated Amish farmers lose dairy ruling TORONTO (CP) The Ontario Milk Commission has rejected an appeal by Amish dairy farmers for an, exemption from a new provincial regulation requiring farmers to cool and ship their milk by methods requiring electricity, a commission official said last week. The ruling will affect about 130 Amish dairy farmers who refuse to use electricity because of religious beliefs. Jim Jewson, commission executive 'director, said an electric generator is needed to get industrial milk from the tanks at the farms into a bulk tank truck. "The commission feels that the reli home varied from $187 to $350 for the same amount but different types of insulation material.

Estimates of fuel-cost savings ranged up to 40 per cent for the additional attic insulation. But a federal energy conservation official said the extra insulation could have cut only between 15 and 20 per cent from the home's fuel bill. Yvan Morin, president of Morin In-'sulation, said eligibility is determined by the age of the building and his firm would post-date invoices as long as the house would become eligible for the subsidy before the firm's fiscal year ends in February. '1 don't mind," he said. "If you can have your grant from the government, it doesn't hurt.

We're not really cheating anybody." SARNIA (CP) Christian Magee. charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 15-year-old London girl last year, has been found not guilty on the grounds of insanity by an Ontario Supreme Court Jury. Magee, of the Strathroy, area, denied killing Susan Lynn Scholes, found stabbed to death near Forest, June 15, 1976. The jury of six men and six women took three hours to reach its verdict Friday after Mr. Justice John Morden had urged the jurors to consider psychiatric testimony presented during the eight-day trial.

Three psychiatrists and one psychologist testified that Magee has a severe psychopathic personality and said the mental disorder could have made him incapable of appreciating the nature and quality of an act such as killing the Scholes girl. During his summation, Mr. Justice Morden told the jury it would be wrong to reject the psychiatric evidence unless any mistake could be found in the reasoning of the witnesses. He also told the jury that it had first to be convinced Magee killed the girl before considering whether Magee was insane. Magee will be remanded in custody until committed to a provincial psychiatric institution.
