(AP) A 10-day-old thoroughbred colt, whose mother is the cousin of the Triple-Crown winning stallion Secretariat, was stolen from its stall at the Black Diamond Ranch when the owners left to do some errands. The colt, valued at $40,000 to $100,000, was stolen sometime Monday night. NHL Roundup By The Associated Press Until recently, the Montreal Canadiens owned the Boston Bruins.

Just Last season, Boston managed one meager tie in eight games with the Canadiens. But the Bruins turned the tables on Montreal this year until Thursday night. The Canadiens, who trail first-place Boston by 11 points in the National Hockey League's Adams Division, asserted themselves against the Bruins for the first time since the opening game of the season. Montreal outshot the usually stingy Bruins 38-21 in posting a 3-1 decision. "They beat us the last three times they've played us," said Montreal's Steve Shutt, who scored the Canadiens' first goal.

"We had to come up with a big game. It's getting near the end of the season now, where all the teams are thinking playoffs. The Bruins are going to be in contention, too. We had to prove to ourselves that we could beat them." Montreal did so by dominating play after Boston's Rick Middleton scored his 39th goal of the season 1:24 into the second period on a power play. Shutt tied it at Ryan Walter streak on the road as they rallied in the third period on goals by Mike Bossy and John To-nelli.

Tonelli put in his own rebound after some sloppy clearing work by the Pittsburgh defense with 7:22 to go. The Penguins are 0-4-1 in their last five games and nave the fewest points in the NHL, 38. FLAMES 6, JETS 3 Kent Nilsson had two goals and two assists to pace Calgary. The Jets have lost five straight Smythe Division matchups and are only one point ahead of fifth-place Los Angeles in the sector. Only four Smythe teams will make the playoffs.

WHALERS 3, DEVILS 0 Down at the bottom of the standings, the Whalers snapped their nine-game losing streak in style. Hartford had surrendered 63 goals in those nine games, yet it befuddled the Devils as Greg Millen stopped 23 shots. Blaine Stoughton connected for his 38th goal at 9:38 of the second period with the Whalers holding a 5-on-3 skating advantage and Millen didn't have to do much to protect it. The shutout was Hartford's second of the season and Millen's first. got the game-winner at 12:35 and Mark Napier hit an empty net with 23 seconds remaining.

Elsewhere, it was Philadelphia 6, Minnesota Detroit 4, Chicago the New York Islanders 4, Pittsburgh Calgary 6, Winnipeg 3, and Hartford 3, New Jersey 0. "It's one of the better games we've played lately," added Shutt, who now has 30 goals for the season. "You can't just play one good game. I think you build on it and gradually get better. This is what we've been doing the last two or three weeks." The Canadiens are 5-1-3 since being blanked by the Islanders Feb.
