Paul Varg, 81, lyiSU historian By TONY SCOTTA Lansing State Journal EAST LANSING Paul Varg, a leading American foreign policy historian and the first dean of the College of Arts and Letters at Michigan State University, died Wednesday in Florida. He was 81. "He represented all the virtues faculty member should strive for at a large public university like Michigan State," said Gordon Stewart, chairman of the Michign State University history department "He never viewed himself as the occupant of an ivory tower but saw his; task as opening the minds of students from across the country in ways which would make them constructive and thoughtful citizens of this state and this country." Varg joined the university in 1958 and retired in 1981 as a history professor emeritus. His first class: History of American foreign relations. Earlier, he was an associate history professor at Ohio State University.

Wilson was co-owner and operator of Capitol Printing retiring in 1984. She was a member of St Pauls United Church of Christ and Lansing Rebekah Lodge 443 for 60 years. Predeceased by her husband, Howard O. Wilson (102792) whom she married on 22434 in Lansing, Mrs. Wilson is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs.

MYERS, CAROLINE E. (JOY) Charlotte Age 79, died Wednesday, February 23, 1994 at her residence after an extended illness.

Mrs. Myers was born in Lansing; was a 1933 graduate of Lansing Central High School; had been a Charlotte area resident since 1940; was employed at the Eaton County Equalization Dept. retiring in 1982; and was a member and former pianist at the Gresham United Methodist Church. Surviving are 1 daughter, Martha (Charles) Powers of Charlotte; 2 sons, Jon (Rebecca) Myers of Milan, MI and Fred (Sherry) Myers of Charlotte; 6 grandchildren, Ryan and Charl-sie Powers, Charles and Rachel Myers and Paul and Samantha Myers; 1 sister, Mary (Wesley) Yard of Lansing; and 1 brother, Max Toy of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J.

Myers in 1985. There will be no funeral home visitation. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 1994 at the Gresham United Methodist Church, 5055 Mulllken Charlotte with Rev. James L.

Norm was predeceased by his parents Howard and Myrtle Taylor; and his brothers, Clarence and Ken. Norm, or "Bud" as he was affectionately known to his family, was born January 31, 1927 in Souris, Manitoba. He attended elementary and high school in Souris, and then went to Winnipeg for a pre-med course at the University of Manitoba. He spent some time at Manitoba Hydro and then went on to a long and memorable career in public service for Health and Welfare Canada in Ottawa. Norm was a comforting shoulder and sounding board to many, and will be sorely missed by a large group of family and friends.

At Dad's request there will be no service, but please remember the good times. We love you and miss you Dad. MURPHY, GENEVIEVE "CONNIE" Holt MI Age 69, loving wife, mother and grandmother, has gone to be with her Lord on February 22, 1994. She was born in Chicago, IL on June 8, 1924, and has been a resident of Holt for 38 years.

Mrs. Murphy worked for Holt Public Schools for 21 years as a Noontime Supervisor, was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church; and NAGEL, RUTH ESTER Wyoming, MI Born November 11, 1913; passed away February 22, 1994 and went to be with her Lord and Saviour; St age 80. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold. StitZi survived by 2 daughters and 1 son, Carol (Ron) Hamstra, Shaf-' on (Jim) Strating and Tom (Karen) Nagel of Lansing; 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Marie Boksma, Georgian De Fouw, her twin sister, Grace Colver and Jean Colver; 3 sisters-in-law. Seger. DUDLEY, HARRY EMERSON Zephyrhills, FL KREIDER, ALICE EMMA BEERS Formerly of Okemos Age 84, died February 22, 1994. Alice was born January 13, 1910 in Marion County, Ohio. She graduated from the teacher training program at Ohio University in 1930 and taught first grade at Morrell, Ohio before her marriage in 1933 to Michael Kreider. Alice was a member of the Okemos Community Church for nearly 50 years.

She will be remembered for her loving kindness, encouragement and support by all who loved her. She was preceded in death by son, Eugene, and her beloved husband, Michael. Surviving are 4 children, Jon (Nancy), Jim (Georgia Kaye), Jeanette, and Janice (Steve SL Louis); 9 grandchildren, Shawn (Mary), Nikki, Jason; Andrea and Michael Kreider; Andrew and Matthew (Amy) Wattles and Scott (Ya-suko) and Heather Smalley; 2 great grandchildren, Forrest and Nicholas Kreider. East Lansing Age 51, died February 21, 1994. Born August 10, 1942 in Lansing. Mrs. Stowell was a lifelong resident of the area. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed the great outdoors and pets, especially Boston Terriers.

Surviving are 2 sons, Lee R. Swift of East Lansing and Tige G. Walkinhood of Lansing; grandson, Alexander G. Walkinhood; mother, Grace M. Stowell of Eaton Rapids; brother, Bernie Stowell of Lansing; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 25, 2:30 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel, East Lansing. Friends may call at the Chapel beginning Thursday at 2 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

PREMOE, SYLVIA (MICKEY) Holt MI Born in London, England October 13, 1925, Mrs. Premoe died February 23, 1994. She came to America in 1946 and was a 21 year employee of the J.W. Knapp Co. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmond November 1979.

She is survived by her daughter, Rindy (Byam) Pri-meau; grandson, Robb Byam; and 1 sister and 2 brothers in England. There will be no visitation or service. Arrangements by the Palmer-Bush Lansing Chapel. on February 22, 1994. Mrl Dudley was born January 26, 1919 in Grand Ledge.

He was a-resident of Lansing, until moving to Florida in U976; a World War It veteran; and retired from Fisher Body-Lansing Plant after 35 years of service. Surviving are loving wife of-56 years, Regina Dudley; sister, Faye Parr of Lansing; daughter, Constance Williams of Lansing; son, Dana of Madison, grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by a son. Jack Dudley. Graveside services to be held in Lansing will be announced at a later date.

HORN, BARBARA L. Manistee Age 64, died February 23, 1994 in Manistee. Barbara was employed at Eaton Stamping In Eaton Rapids prior to owning and operating Udell Hills Grocery Store in Manistee. She retired in 1992 from White-hills Health Care Center as a Supervisor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max in 1981.
