3D THE TIMES HERALD PORT HURON, MICH. Obituaries State labor chief blasts wage, price guidelines think the voluntary guidelines are going to work. Greed on both the part of management and labor will be a deterrent," he said. "Roll back the interest rates, allow a reasonable margin of profits, freeze rents that would provide a year or two of cooling off," Marshall said. "There are so many ways for a company to deviate where what a worker receives is right there in the paycheck." Marshall also said Congress should pass a law so that more controls could be put on the Federal Reserve Board, which determines the nation's supply of money.

Marshall said the board has and continues to favor a banker's mentality. "The control of our monetary system is in fewer and fewer hands, and interest rates are escalating," he said. "We ought to take care of these money changers by driving them out of the temple." Carter's proposed 1980 federal budget cutbacks also drew scathing remarks. "We, in labor, have to be concerned with those less fortunate than we are," Marshall said. "The cutbacks will hit those who can leas', afford it the poor and the elderly.

Most Americans, including our own members, just don't give a damn." In Michigan, Marshall said his union doesn't have any particular programs to Mrs. Joe Lambson MARLETTE Ruth Lambson, 59, of 4708 Montgomery, died Wednesday in St. Mary's Hospital, Saginaw, after a lengthy illness. Swainson, former Michigan governor and Supreme Court justice.

Mrs. Swainson died Monday in Mercy Hospital at age 74. Marshall had nothing good to say about Carter's voluntary wage and price guidelines, which asks business and labor to keep yearly increases to seven percent. "We hear a lot about holding back prices. What about holding back profits?" Marshall said.

Marshall sharply criticized the General Motors record profits of $3.5 billion announced this week. The earnings were on record sales of $63.2 billion. However, company officials said the corporation's profit margin dipped to 5.5 percent lower than 1977's 6.1 percent and 10.3 percent in 1965 despite the record profits. Marshall said he believes profits, interest rates, rent, prices and wages all should be controlled to slow down inflation. "I don't think anyone would quarrel that something has to be done to get a handle on inflation.

New political violence was reported in the Caspian Sea town of Gorgan, where state radio said four anti-government demonstrators were killed and 21 injured. "My guess is that we're going to have to lobby so that the heart isn't cut out of past legislation," he said. Included would be the state's often-criticized worker's compensation laws, which sets benefits to be paid by companies for workers injured on the job. "You hear about workmen's compensation laws from chambers of commerce all across the country. It's the same old record. It seems to be a national pitch," he said.

"But I don't see any changes. "We have an unusal number of freshman legislators there's no way they're going to get an agreement with labor and business." Marshall also spoke with Richard Cummings, St. Clair County AFL-CIO Labor Council president, on local union affiars, and with Pat Courtney, local labor representative for the county United Way, on labor's involvement in community service programs. "I am tremendously pleased with the job Pat and Dick do here and the respect they seem to have here in St. Clair County.

The labor movement has always been involved in community affairs," Marshall said. Labor contributed about a third of the county's support to the annual United Way drive last fall. U.S.A. Organizers had mustered thousands of volunteer marshals to control the crowds. The demonstrators marched from Tehran University to Shahyad Square, which they have-renamed Liberty Square.

State radio said more than one million people marched. The organizers claimed that 1,000 air force and army men joined the march, many with their families, to show their loyalty to Khomeini and their defiance of their commanders' pledge that the 430.000 men of the armed forces would defend Bakhtiar's government. Journalists reported seeing as many as 200 soldiers in the march. li 1 Member FDIC No Charge Checking.
