Delta Fire Chief Victor Hilbert said the fire was reported about 6 p.m. by a neighbor who saw flames coming through the roof of the building.

The building, owned by Jay Mortenson, housed hundreds of used auto batteries, Hilbert said. Fumes from sulfuric acid in the batteries forced firefighters to wear facemasks. Hilbert said material left too close to a wood-burning stove caused the fire. He said the fire caused about $5,000 in damage to the building and $3,000 to its contents. Council's agenda light The Lansing City Council faces a light agenda when it convenes at 7 p.m.

Lansing man killed; DeWitt woman hurt A Lansing man was killed and a DeWitt woman was seriously injured about 1:40 a.m. Sunday in a two-car head-on collision on Airport Road about half a mile north of Grand River Avenue in Watertown Township, the Clinton County sheriffs department said. The dead man was identified as Kenneth J. Harper, 23. Deputies said he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Betty Jo Jones, 21, of 14073 U.S. 27, DeWitt. a passenger in the other car, was listed in critical condition at St. Lawrence Hospital Sunday night. Her husband.

Ford Jones, 24, the driver of the car, was treated at St. Lawrence Hospital. The couplers four-month old daughter was not injured. Russell Doty, dispatch officer, said the Jones vehicle was northbound on Airport Road and the victim, the sole occupant of his car, was southbound when the two cars collided. The accident remains under investigation.

Juveniles held in robbery Two juveniles were being, held by Lansing police following an attempted armed robbery outside Riverfront Towers Sunday evening. Police said the two juveniles attempted to take a purse at knifepoint from Artice Mainville of Dimon-dale around 6 p.m. When she screamed for help, the youths fled. They were arrested a short time later near Riverfront Park, police said. Wednesday at Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

for 44 years, retiring in 1965. He was a member of the Michigan Pharmaceutical Association and received a 50 Year Certificate in 1976. He is survived by his wife, Eva; 3 daughters, Mrs. Betty J. Noel and Mrs.

Walter (Juanita) Jacquemain, both of Lansing and Mrs. Brian (Marilyn) Moore of Grand Rapids; 1 son, Kenneth P. Born April 30, 1900 in Sherman MI, Mr. Stanke was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for 64 years. He was preceded in death by wife, Eunice and 3 children. LYNN, PEARL MAE, i GABEL, HAZEL M. Mason, MI Age 83, died Saturday, January 11, 1986 at a local nursing home after a long illness. Mrs. Gabel was a resident of the Mason and Lansing area for most of her life. She operated a stand at Lansing City Market for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Virginia M. Gabel of Mason; 2 sons, William H. Gabel, Jr. and his wife. Norma of Grand Ledge and Daniel C.

Gabel and his wife, Ellen of Lansing; 1 daughter-in-law, Donna Gabel of FL; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. Mrs. Gabel was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1962 and a son. Forest (Bud) in 1984. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.

Boyd was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, a former DeWitt City Council Member of 8 years, a member and Past President of the the DeWitt Lions Club and currently District Youth Exchange Chairman, a member of the DeWitt Council 7237 Knights of Columbus, and the Notre. Dame Club of Lansing. Surviving are his wife, Marilyn; 1 daughter, Kathy; 1 son, Kevin, both at home; 3 brothers, John O. Boyd and Wayne J.

Boyd, both of Saginaw and Michael T. Boyd of Waterford; several nieces and nephews. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church with the Rev.

Age 90, passed away on January 11, 1986. He was born July 26, 1895 in Watertown Clinton County, MI and had been a lifelong resident of the Township. He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, Senior Citizens at St. Therese, and the Jolly Club and was a former Water-town Twp. farmer, plumber and electrician.

Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by his wives, Eunice Reeve Hodges in 1969 and Irene VanElls Hodges in 1983; a daughter, Joyce E. Cobb in 1977. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Vaughn (Eleanor) Montgomery of Grand Ledge; a granddaughter, Kaye Lynn and husband, Duane Price; 2 grandsons, David Keith and wife, Dorothy Montgomery and Kenneth V.

BARNES, LEROY Grand Ledge Age 90. died January 12. 1986 in a 'Vita Twp. nursing hu.ne. Mr.

Barnes was born August 22. 1895 in Carson City, a son of John and Mary (Harlow) Barnes, and was a lifelong farmer, having lived on his present farm for 60 years. He served on the Eagle Fair Board, was a Director of the Grand Ledge Milk Company, and was a member of the original Ever Ready Club Building Committtee. Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by Neva, his wife of 64 years; a grandson; a son-in-law; 4 brothers; and 4 sisters.

Surviving are his daughter. Hellen McCormack of Sun-field; his daughter, Izetta and husband, Richard Lawson of Grand Ledge; his son, Harley and wife. Norma Barnes of Grand Ledge; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. Gladys Dyke of Lake Odessa; 1 brother. Earnest and wife, Eva Barnes of Wacousta; several nieces and nephews.

Services, 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken with Rev. Floyd Nagel officiating. Interment in Union Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Barnes, Alexander Lawson, Charles Lawson, John McCormack, Dennis Goodman, and Gene Williams.

Honorary bearers will be Greg Barnes and Mike McCormack. MOORE, HENRY P. (JOCK) Lansing Age 80, died January 12, 1986 at a local nursing home. Mr. Moore was a resident of Lansing most of his life.

He graduated from Western Michigan University. Surviving are his brother. Max Moore of Corunna; sister, Imo-gene Canning; niece, Maxine Campbell of Corunna; 1 stepdaughter, Eleanor Cleeves of Lansing; 2 step grandsons, Dan Drolett of Lansing and Tim Markell of CO. 1986. Mr. Peters was a lifelong resident of Lansing. He was a retired employee of Bunday Bedding and a Past President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1039. Mr.

Peters is survived by 1 brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Vivian Peters of Holt; 1 sister, Doris Bowlin of Engle-wood, FL; a foster daughter and husband, Linda and Eugene Timmer of Lansing; a foster granddaughter, Tanya; a foster grandson, Michael; a foster great grandaughter; a close friend, Irene Gross. LYNN, PEARL MAE Lansing Age 94, passed away January 10, 1986 at Coral Gables, FL She was born November 13, 1891 in Potterville, MI and had been a lifelong resident of the Lansing area. Mrs. Lynn was a member of the Central United Methodist Church and the Ruth Circle. She graduated from Potterville High School and was a member of the Auxiliary at Ingham Medical Center. Mrs.

Lynn was preceded in death by her husband, Ray C. Lynn and 2 sons, Carroll and Russell Lynn. Surviving are her son, Harvey W. Lynn of DeWitt, MI; 2 grandsons, David C. and Laurence R.

Lynn; 3 granddaughters, Martha Lee, Judy Ritter and Priscilla Dunckel; 9 great grandchildren. Religious services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Rev. Sidney A. Short officiating with interment in Deepdale Memorial Park.

Visitation will begin at Noon Monday and the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Memori als may be made to Hospjce Qf memory of Mrs. Lynn.

COLEMAN, VIVIENNE M. Lansing Age 65, died January 12. 1986 at a local hospital. Mrs. Coleman had been a resident of Lansing since 1961.

She was a member of the Womens Association of North Presbyterian Church. She was also active in the Waverly 39ers. Mrs. Coleman was preceded in death by her husband. Hugh James Coleman in 1976.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, James and Barbara Coleman of Marietta, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Dennis Huckins of Lansing; stepson and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Julie Coleman of Casper, WY; 2 sisters, Eunice G. Dunn of Leandro, CA and Linda Harper Breuer of Northfield, IL; 1 brother, Walter W. Harper of Northridge, CA; several grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Delta Center Cemetery Chapel with Rev.

DOYLE, GEORGE J. 1057 Roxburgh East Lansing Age 78, died January 10, 1986. Born February 22, 1907 in Cleveland, OH. Mr. Doyle was employed by the Michigan Department of Transportation for 32 years and was a member of the Central Michigan Amateur Radio Club.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth 1 daughter, Jane E. Murray of Sturgis, MI. Funeral services will be held Tuesday. 11:30 a.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman East Chapel, East Lansing with Rev.
