William A. Comstock. Democratic candidate for governor, made a plea for election of the local, state and national Democratic tickets. Devoting much of his address to national issues, the candidate declared that industry will be safe if Governor Smith is elected president. "The Republicans have raised their ancient bogie-man, the tariff, which they resurrect every four years." Comstock said.

"Governor Smith has clearly defined his position on the tariff, having taken approximately the same position as did Woodrow Wilson, with the addition of one very interesting and conservative feature." He said that Governor Smitn proposes development of the "fact finding commission" idea of President Wilson, and also proposes to end the passing of general tariff legislation.
