In 1844 Frenchman, by name of Iuco. sucaJn tried to devise a means of taking moving pictures, but he had no instant camera, and was obliged also to use wet plates for pictures. The first real moving picture was made in 1878 by Eadward Muy-bridgts aa the result ot a wager made by Senator Letand Stanford, of California, an ardent lover of horses. Stanford asserted that a trotting horse at on point left the ground with all four feet.

With thin background Edison set to work, lie tried first to solve the question of quickly changing films, which waa the moat obvious defect, by using a cylinder coated with sensitized material, and making exposures of microscopic size. With this arrangement he made 4S pictures a second, whereas the usual rat of running them now is 20 to 30 per second. The pictures, however, could not be made clearcut on so small a film and with the coarse sensitising material available. But when kodak film was introduced by the Faetman Kodak company.
