The crowd cheered, as it did when Zdybel dove onto the dance floor and continued to jam lying on his back. Dancers didn't miss a beat. They congregated around him, yelling unanimous approval. After years of these fans expect these twists of non-comformity.

That's one of the many things they will miss. Charles and Audrey Mansfield drive from Hudson 75 miles to see what they call "the best jazz band in the state." "I'm bummed to see them go," Audrey Mansfield said. "I hope to follow them somewhere else. I'm 45 years old, and I feel like a groupie now." A 15-year follower explained some of the changes he's seen. "The band moved from one room to another," said Mark Kruger of Lansing.

"It's grown so much now it's bigger than life itself. See that crack in the dance floor? That's where they doubled it in size. "In the old days, the bathroom was downstairs, now it's upstairs. And they added air conditioning." The one thing that has stayed the same, Kruger said, is that the band has been great. He can't understand why the bar is letting it go.

"It must be because of lack of business," he joked, looking at the packed bar. "I don't know of too many bars in town that do this kind of business on a Monday night." The Delegates admit that fans don't line the building like they did 12 years ago. "Our fans are so old, they can't make it to the bar anymore," Zdybel said.
