Ferris, of Eir Rapid, dfra-00 rat. took the oath of office and be-, came governor of Michigan at noon today. The ceremony took place on the east porch of the capital baiid-Irg, with a huge crowd of enthusiastic friends, partymen and citiiena, thronging the rapitoi lawn to witness the induction of the first democratic executive in Michigan in 2 3 years. With him were the state officers elected on the republican ticket, members of his famtiy and a goodly number of legislators who delayed attending the opening ceremonies of their neysion. to participate ln honoring the new governor.

Douglas, aged 74 and years respectively, died at their home ln Lapeer this morning, both from natural causes. With the deaths of these aged and prominent reople, passes the last of a family, all members of which have died on New Yeer's morning. Dr. Douglas died at 12:10 this morning while at 4 o'clock Mrt. Douglas passed away.
