The state returns more than $580 million a year to taxpayers through the homestead credit program, rather than $700,000, as stated in a story on home buying. In addition, a 1-cent increase in the state sales tax will generate about $600 millionrather than the $600,000 as reported in an article on the property tax load, or about $500 million if utility bills were exempted. The Associated Press reported erroneously the name of a man arrested for allegedly throwing his 18-month-old baby out a window. The correct name is Fred Purcell.

Tuesday and until ser vice time on Wednes day. Lansing State Journal Benjamin R. Leyrer, principal at Everett High School for 19 years before retiring in 1970, died Monday.

Leyrer, of 1622 Lindbergh Drive, was a native of Lansing and had long been active in edu- cational and community affairs. Following his retirement, Leyrer worked part time as a field secretary for the Michigan Association of Secondary School-Principals, an organization of which he was also a past presi-, dent The association honored Leyrer for distinguished service in 1980. He was a 1934 graduate of Alma College and two years later joined the staff at Eastern High School as a teacher. Funerals He served as a lieutenant and a naval pilot navigation instructor in the U.S. Navy during World WarlL Leyrer became known to hundreds of Lansing youth in the late '30s and early '40s as "Benny," while working as a counselor and later director at the YMCA's Mystic Lake Camp.

He was appointed assistant business manager for the Lansing School District in 1946 and the following year became assistant principal at Eastern. He assumed the principalship at Everett in 1951 and received his master's degree from Michi-, gan State University in 1953. Services are being arranged by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing ChapeL ton Lake Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, Gladys with whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, June 6, 1986; 1 daughter, Mrs. Partrick (Cherie).

Hagadorn East Lansing Age 62, died April 28, 1986 in Lansing General Hospital. Born October 11, 1923 in Shiawassee County, MI, the child of Willie and Nellie (Willoughby) Hite, Mrs. Meredith attended the Owosso Public Schools, and lived in the Perry and Lansing areas all of her life. She was married to Harold Meredith. She attended Community Bible Church of Shaftsburg and was a waitress and homemaker.

Surviving are 1 son, Garry Bakos of Holt; 1 stepson, Harold R. Meredith of Lansing; 1 stepdaughter, Mrs. Harold (Judy) Pittman of Mason; 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and 1 brother, Foster Hite of Morrice. Funeral services will be held at Nelson-House Funeral Home, LaRowe Chapel, Perry, Thursday 11 a.m. Mrs.

Meredith will lie-in-state Tuesday 3-9 p.m. and Wednesday, 9-9 p.m. Burial will be in Oak Plains Cemetery, Shaftsburg. The family suggests donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Age 41, went to be with the Lord, April 26, 1986.

He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and had been a lifelong resident of Lansing. He was employed with Oldsmobile as a Press Operator. Mr. Ballard was preceded in death by his brother, Tim. He is survived by his wife, Candy; 3 daughters, Cheryl Lynn, Kimberly Ann, Michelle Renae; 1 brother, Richard of Montague; mother and father, Charles and Betty Ballard of Lansing; mother and father-in-law, Roger and Mary Ann Vandervort of California; special cousin, Ray Holt of Riverdale; many relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Rev. Roger Straub officiating The family will receive their friends Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Tiffany Funeral Home. said on the occasion of his retirement, "This is a wonderful country of opportunity and I love it "Don't say much about me," he told a reporter at the time.

"Just say something nice about my customers. Write something nice about how much I have loved them for the 32 years I have been in business in Lansing." Survivors include Bonofiglo's wife. Arrangements arejy the Palmer-Bush Funeral Home. Lansing State Journal Louis Bonofiglo. former owner of Bonofiglo Grocery, died Monday. He was 83. Bonofiglo was born in SL Ip-plitto, Italy, and came to the United States in 1919.

He was in business with an uncle in Muskegon until moving to Lansing 1937. He operated grocery stores in downtown Lansing and on Sheridan and Johnson streets before opening a store at 2708 S. Logan. He sold the store and retired in -1969 after 18 years at the location. A modest man who retained his thick' Italian accent, Bonofiglo BONOFIGLO, LOUIS Lansiag Age 83, died Monday, April 28, 1986 at a local hospital.

Mr. Bonofiglo was born in SL Ipplitto, Italy and lived in Lansing since 1937. He was a member of SL Casimir Catholic Church, the Italian American Club, the Waverly 39'rs, and was former owner of Bonofiglo Delicatessen. Surviving are his Rose; 1 son, Eugene and his wife, Barbara of Grand Rapids; 1 daughter, Mrs. Stephen (Madeline) Hicks of Lansing; 6 grandchildren, Robert and his wife, Joan Bonofiglo, Craig Bonofiglo and William Bonofiglo, all of Grand Rapids, Steve Hicks, Jeffrey Hicks, Joseph Hicks, all of Lansing; 1 sister, Rosina Spagnu-olo of Toronto, Canada; 1 sister-in-law; and 1 brother-in-law; several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Theresa Spagnuolo of Muskegon. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at St. Casimir Catholic Church with Rev. Fr.

Albert Hornberger as the Celebrant Interment will follow at SL Joseph Catholic Cemetery. MORRIS, JERRYS. 1347 Glenrose Age 53, died April 27, 1986. Born June 26, 1932 in Missouri, Mr. Morris had been a resident of Lansing since 1955, and was employed with the Lansing School District. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the U.S.

Army. He is survived by his wife, 1 Gloria 4 daughters, Mrs. Valerie Cobb of Iowa, Mrs. Michael (Linda) Gabriel of Washington, Mrs. Richard (Pamela) Jones and Mrs.

William (Jera) both of Lansing; 3 grandchildren; mother, Mrs. Lu-cile Morris of Lansing; 5 brothers, Pete, Ralph, Quinn, Larry, and Bob Morris; 1 sister, Mrs. Evelyn Forist; also several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great Funeral services will be held Thursday, 2:30 p.m. at the Gorsiine-Runciman Lansing Chapel with Elder John L. Robison of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Hoesman. WALKER, VENAE. East Lansing Age 80, died April 27, 1986. Born November 4, 1905 in Sickles, ML Mrs. Walker was a graduate of Lansing Central High School and Acme Business College.

She was a member of Peoples Church. Mr. and Mrs. Walker were former members of Walnut Hills Country Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolan Walker (1983).

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Mar-jorie and William Eck-hart of Haslett; 2 granddaughters, Mrs. Leo (Sheryl) Durfey of Florida and Mrs. Sharon Getzen of Holt; 3 great granddaughters; 2 great grandsons. Philip G. An- JENKINS, TM. (TOM) WOODLEY, HELEN ELIZABETH Haslett Age 78, died April 28, 1986. Born June 20, 1907, Mrs. Woodley had graduated from Lansing St Marys in 1925 and had lived and worked in Lansing all of her life.

She was employed with Gibbons Plumbing and Heating from 1926-1932, with the State of Michigan in Lansing from 1933-1942 and with St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church from 1955-1972, where she had been an active member since 1955. She had also participated in St Catherines Guild and Capitol Grange Sing-a-Long. She was preceded in death by her father. Sherwood S.

Bennett and mother, Lizzie Bennett Mrs. Woodley is survived by her son, James Wood-ley of Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren, Britt-ney, Catherine, Lynda 201 W. Jolly Rd. Age 73. died April 28, 1986.
