"But we'd certainly like to improve on last year." WINKEL, A four-year letter winner from The Hague, Netherlands, holds school records in the 200 freestyle the 500 freestyle the 1,000 freestyle (9:21.03) and the 1,650 freestyle Winkel also holds the Spartans' top times in three of those events this year with a 1:41.85 in the 200 freestyle, a 4:32.83 in the 500 freestyle and a clocking of 9:23.02 in the 1,000 freestyle. And Winkel's time of 1:59.66 in the 200 individual medley is also a Spartan best in 1985. 0 jt Ovenhouse Winkel MSU names new Volleyball coach Ginger Mayson has been named as the new volleyball coach for Michigan State, replacing 11-year Spartan mentor Annelies Knoppers, who resigned in February to pursue her teaching career. Mayson, 29, is, a graduate of the University of South Alabama, where she compiled a 56-26 record as head coach from 1981-83.

Her record of 42-13 in 1982 was the best in South Alabama history. Mayson is currently an assistant coach at Kansas State University and will begin her job at Michigan State on May 1. In her athletic career at South Alabama, Mayson was a four-time letter winner (1973-77) in volleyball and a three-time letter winner (1973-76) in basketball. Maybin was also a two-time all-conference selection in volleyball. Maybin graduated from South Alabama in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal JusticeAdministration.
