Stocka fin ished a busier week with a rally to day as United States government bonds, taking heart, apparently, from a rise by dollar exchange, reversed their recent downward trend.

High-grade Investment bonds followed, which was encouraging to those who had been disturbed by the sharp slump earlier this week. With grain markets closed and Parla and London security exchanges also suspended for observance of Armistice Day, share traders paid little attention to their own market. Early quotations were mixed and mostly narrow. Sales totaled only 473,180 shares. The R.

F. C. Jacked up Its gold price 12 cents to $33.32 and the world prlrs was also advanced, although on the basis of sterling's London open ing the Washington level was higher. The pound began to rally soon after trading began here and closed at 15.10, off half a cent, while French francs, after yielding several points, finished unchanged. Late gains In stocks were well dis tributed and net advances ranged from fractions to around 2 points for most of the active Issues.

Mining Issues looked fairly vigor ous, U. 8. Smelting rising more than 3 points and Patlno about 2. Ameri can Telephone, after some hesitancy, gained nearly 2. U.

8. Steel, West- lnghouse, American Smelting, Chrysler, Harvester, Du Pont, Union Car bide, New York Central, Celanese, Ceror de Pasco and Santa Fe lm-, proved 1 or more. National Distillers Jumped around 3 points and Western Union almost as much. Although major trade Indices re flect a further contraction In business, some comfort Is derived from the smaller decreases. NEW YORK STOCK LIST.

JUNIOR GENTS LOSE TO TEXAS ELEVEN, 12 TO 0 By T. RAYMOND SAGE. Centenary Frerhmen ended their run of scoreless ties Saturday afternoon by taking a 12 to 0 defeat from Texas Military college eleven of Terrell, Texas, Saturday. The game was played as a preliminary to the Centenary-Union university contest. There was little to choose between the teams except for the third quarter scoring splurge which netted the Texans two touchdowns.

First downs were about even, with the Texans having a margin of nine to seven, but the visitor Were able to bunch theirs more successfully than the Rinky-Dlnks. T. M. C. showed a powerful backfleld combination In Bill Smith, "Bed" Smith, Rogers, and Graham, while the burden of the Freshmen offense rested upon Lento and Mazoch.

The field wag a little slippery as the first quarter got under way and the backs on both teams had troutrle keeping their footing. The period was devoted exclusively to punt exchanges, with Red Smith getting the edge over Thompson of the Freshmen to keep the play in Centenary territory during the entire period. Each team mads a scoring gesture In the second quarter but neither could deliver a touchdown punch. Gains by Graham and Rogers advanced the Texans to the Freshmen 18 yard line, but the ball went over to the locals when a pass was Incomplete in the end zone. The Centenary then reeled off four successive first downs, with a pans from Mazoch to Lento, gains by Mazoch, and three offsides penalties accounting for the yardage, which carried them to the 12 yard line.

Rogers Intercepted a pasa to break up the drive. T. M. C. started a scoring drive early in the third quarter.

A pass from Rogers to Graham gained 30 yards, Rogers reeled off 15 yards on a sweep around end, and Graham made several short gains advance to the four yard line. Rogers smashed through left tackle for a touchdown, but Bill Smith missed the kick for extra point. The Texans second touchdown came right on the heels of the first. Mazoch returned the klckoff to his own 24-yard line, and Thompson attempted to punt on the first play. He was rushed so fiercely by the Texas line that the punt went straight up and was recovered by the visitors on the 25-yard line, Graham accounted for 23 yards in two dashes off tackle, and Bill Smith sneaked through center for the remaining two yards and a score.

"Red" Smith's kick for extra point was wide, leaving the score 12-0. Neither team threatened seriously in the final period, although the Freshmen had the advantage with three first downs while the visitors made only one. The Freshmen completed two nice passes, Mazoch to Hooper and Lento to GreeVi, but thsy were able to get no closer than the 30-yard line. 11 (), Notre Dame'a football fortunes rose to new hopes today and then crashed to the lowest depths In five years as Purdue's horde of Boilermakers won a 19 to 0 triumph over the luckless Ramblers before 35,000 spectators. Fighting the battle of their Uvea the forces of Coach "Hunk" Anderson absorbed their worst licking since 1928 as the Boilermakers' backs converted an Irish aerial thrust Into one score and then laid down a barrage of passes to turn the game Into a rout. Not since th Sklbos from Carnegie Tech defeated the Ramblers, 27 to 7, did any Notre Dame eleven take such a pounding. Duane Purvis teamed with Jim Carter, Paul Pardonner, Fritz Febel and an' Iron line to heap misery on the once-powerful forces of Notre Dame as the Pitt coach, Nobel Kizer, hailed in newspaper headlines everywhere as the next football coach at Notre Dame, looked on happily. Fcbei, an alert right guard, stopped an Irish drive in the second period.

Nick Lukats attempted a flat zone pass on his own 15 but Febel slipped in, picked the ball out of the air and raced for 15 yards and the first touchdown. Pardonner added the ex tra point with a drop-kick. Back came the Ramblers with a passing attack, Lukats to Devore, for Grid Scores (Continued From Page One). Lambuth 0, Freed Hardeman 0 (tie). Fred Hecker dropped back on the enemy 35 and flipped a high pasa to Pardonner, who caught It on the five-yard mark, scored th to'efti-down and then amazed th fan tiy missing the extra point.

It was only the third time In 30 trie during hi career at Purdue that he had missed. Hope surged again in th Ramblers' hearts as John "Tex" Young, opho- mor back from Houston, Texaa, single-handed almost, carried the ball to Purdue' six-yard stripe, but again the Boilermaker line, backed resolute ly by Purvis, held. Then in th fourth period. Illegal interference with a pasa receiver gave Notre Dame the ball on Purdue's 22 and Lukats passed to Don Elzer, who was downed on the 2'- yard mark for first down. Four downs later the hope had again faded thl time on the one-yard line.

A little later Carter threw a long pass of 35 yards to Purvis, who gal loped 15 more for th third and final score. Pardonner attempted to run the ball over for the extra point, but fell a foot short. It was the fourth successive shutout for Notre Dame and the fifth lie this season. Kalamazoo 0, Alma 0 (tie). Western State (Mich.) 33, St.

P) While some support appeared today for recently depressed United States Government securities, the bond market, aa a whole, was able to do little more than hold Its own.

Sales totaled $6,371,000, par value, about the same as last Saturday, and the average for 60 domestic corporate issues waa unchanged at 73.1. This average showed a loss of elx-tenths of a point on the week. The federal section rallied briskly In the first hour when the dollar came back substantially against leading forolgn exchanges. Government loans also pared their extreme gains, but all of them finished up 2-32nds to 39-33-nds of a point. Recoveries of fractions to around a point of more were registered by bonds of American Telephone, Santa Fe, Baltimore St Ohio, Chesapeake Standard Oils of New Jersey' and New York and Union Pacific.

There were similar declines, however. In loans of Western Electric, Utilities Power tz Light, U. 8. Rubber, United Drug. The foreign division was dull and a bit reactionary.
