Phone 611 1 Market Continues New Year's Rally NEW YORK fp) Tlic stock market continued its New Years recovery thrust today despite the lack of much rncourasinsr news. Mail orders and specialties were the principal climbers. etendin Friday's rally fractions to more than a point. Dealings were relatively slow and top quotations were shade in most, cases near the final hour. Favored issues included Montcom-ery Ward.

Sears Roebuck. Wool-worth. American Telephone, Western Union. WestinRhouse. Allied Chemical.

Union Carbide. J. C. Penney, N. Y.

Centra, Great Northern. Chesapeake Ohio. Phelps Dodge, Crosier and Speny. iels and rubbers followed a narrow trail. Backward were General Motors, Southern Pacific and Standard Oil of N.

J. jKAIN makkkt CHICAGO Fro.h advances in the grain market today carried prices of corn, oats and rye to around the be.st levels in two to three months, with all quotations. Including those of wheat, near peaks for more than four years. Gains were mostly fractional, although wheat and rye were up al-mrct a cent at times. Market strength, wa-s attributed principally to a revival of investment and commercial buying interest stimulated largely by senate subcommittee approval of price control legislation, which traders said would permit substantial gams in cereal values.

Some hedging sales and profit taking were in evidence, which tended to limit gram price advances and caused moderate reactions at times. Lard prices advanced slightly in sympathy with the sharp advance in cottonseed oil and cotton, but profit, taking caused a fractional decline in soybeans. Country selling of corn lagged, vitli producers apparently still unwilling to part with more than meager quantities in view of the relatively high loan rate and extensive feeding demand, stimulated particularly now by wintry weather. Some of the strength of rye. which caused sharp gains yesterday, was attributed to trade realization that rye prices are further below the proposed ceiling levels than other cereal.
