(UP) -- The State of Indiana got a million dollar check yesterday. Nobody here knew why. The check came from the U.S. Treasury. It was tor a flat miliics --no odd dollars or cents. Officials of the state treasurer's office were mystified. They said the check did .not specify what the money was for and no letter ac{ companies! it ,to explain. f "It doesn't make sense to me," said Mrs. Mary Fife, a bookkeeper for state treasurer Alolph Fossler. "I can't dope it out." Acetylene gas is not poisonous. OBITUARIES ilrna M. Beckert Funeral sendees for Elma May. Beckert, 54, were Saturday at Waggener Canipell Chapel, with Dr. S. McMaster Kerr, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was In Glacier Memorial Gardens, with Ronald Radabab, Ed. Christensen, Arthur L. Weaver, George Waller, Elmer Peterson, and Paul L. Lewis, pallbearers. Elma May Bliss was born July 15, 1903, to Warren and Nellie Skenn Bliss at Minneapolis. As a small child she came with her parents to the Flathead and had made her home In this area since. In 1919, she was married to Jack Williams who died in 1942. On July 15, 1945, she was married to John Beckert, and with her bus- band made her home in the Kila community. For the pa;t several years she had been employed by the Bl-Rite Fountain as a pastry cook. Mrs. Beckert died in a Kalispell hospital Nov. 20. Surviving her are her husband, John Beckert, at the family home; two sons, Donald William of Ellensberg. Wash., and George. Wil- jliams of Kalispell; six daughters, 'Janiel Cone of Fortine, Violet Krantz of Kalispell, Virginia Riley of Lib by, Patsy Rocco of Imvood. N. Y., Joy Eichten of Kellogg. Idaho, and Jeraline Stuart of Missoula; three brothers, George and Earl Bliss, both of Kalispell, and Voyed Bliss of Prospect, Ore.
