Trovers May Clear Scene LITTLE SPORT by Rouson . ly Th« Asuciatcd Prett The running of the historic Travers.Stakes at Saratoga next Saturday may help clear the- muddy picture in the 3-year-old- thoroughbred racing; division. Uariohero- II appeared to be 'the standout after he won .the K e n t u c k y Derby and the Preakness. But he has been Sidelined by a leg infection. Pass Catcher, the surprise winner ot the Belmont Stakes, and Jim French then moved to the fore. But both finished out of the money in the recent Mohmouth Invitational. V Pak WinsEugene Hydro Title EUGENE, Ore. W ^-.Billy Schumacher piloted The Pride of Pay 'n' Pak to victory in three heats Sunday to capture the first running of the Oregon Emerald Cup unlimited hydroplane races. 'Miss Budweiser, the defending national champion, had been expected to duel with The Pride of Pay 'n' Pak for the championship but had trouble with an aftercooler in the second heat and suffered oil loss in the final heat after winning its first heat. Schumacher battled for the lead in the final heat with Miss Madison and Miss Bud' weiser before pulling away from the field with two laps gone in the six-lap contest. His average speed in the final heat was 103.250 m.p.h. The likely favorite : for the Travers at 114 miles is William Levin's greatly improved Bold Reason, who has won his last five starts. Other Travers probables i n c l u d e Eastern Fleet, Kennedy, Roads, Good Behaving and Epic Journey. While the Travers will be loin for the 102nd time, the $100,003 Hobson Handicap will have its inaugural running at Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. A third $100,000 race is listed for this weekend, the Benjamin F. Lindhemier at Arlington. Other Saturday features include the Ventor Handicap at · Atlantic City, the CarbriUo Handicap at Del Mar, and Princess Doreen Handicap at Rockingham and the Edine Handicap at Delaware Park, which reopens for the second half of its 1971 meeting. CORPUS CHRISTI TIMES, Mon., Aug. 16, 1971 5-C Drag Boat Becomes First To Break 200 KENNY MONTGOMERY ISA LONG BEACH, Calif, ffl -Larry Hill of Fresno, Calif., piloted his blown fuel hydro boat Mi 1 . Ed on two consecutive runs Sunday to become the first drag boat ever to race faster than 208 miles an hour. . The Mr. Ed set a world speed record with a clocking of 202.46 miles per hour at the Long Beach Harbor during the California Sea Festival. His second run, required to be within 3 per cent of the first run, was 201.88 m.p.h. . Ironically, Mr. Ed failed to start in the finals of the blown fuel hydro class and Dwight Bale of Concord, Calif, won the trophy in that classification in his Down 'n' Out in 196.92 m.p.h. , Hill smashed the speed record of 190.26 set by the late Jerry Gleason here in 1969. Gleasori died of injuries in a hydro race here two months after setting that record. PUT HIM TO WORK ON YOURS It you're too old to have diaper rash,.. Itmtistbe something else. H's jock itch.
