J. RAY MYERS To retire at end of school year. Myers ends 41 years of service After 41 years in the field oi education, J. Hay Myers will retire at the end of this school year. Myers will be stepping down as p r i n c i p a l of Cornelius Hedges School in Kallspell, a position he has held for the last 26 years, "Education has been a wonderful challenge and I have measured my success by how well rhy students have done," Myers said. Myers received his bachelors and master ot education degrees from the University of Montana with graduate work at Utah State University, University of Hawaii and Stanford University. He began his teacher training at Eastern College of Education in 1931, receiving a life certificate in 1933. In 1935 he began his t e a c h i n g c a r e e r a t Lonepine Consolidated schools. In 1938 he moved to Miss o u l a to b e c o m e an elementary school teacher there. His teaching career was interrupted by a tour of duty in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He r e c e i v e d an honorable discharge from the service in 1945 and in 1949 he came to Kalispell as an elementary school principal. Myers is active in a number of educational associations among them, Kalispell Education Association, Montana Education Association, National Education Association, State, N a t i o n a l , and Northwest Principals Association, as well as the Montana State Council of School Administrators. Myers is immediate past president of M.A.E.S.P. and holds a l i f e membership in P.T.A. He · is a charter member of Phi Delta Kappa and a'ctive in : the Elks, a past president of the Kalispell Lions club as well as a Past District Governor of Lions International. Myers is interested in music in the Flathead Valley, he organized the Gleeman Chorus in 1959 and Sweet Adelines in 1973. He is a member of the Flathead Valley Aires Mens Chorus and played violin with the Flathead V a l l e y S y m p h o n y Orchestra far six years. He also is a charter member of the M i s s o u l a Mendelsohn Club Mens Chorus, and is a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Choir and the Community Concert Series.
