Write: Lyn Headley, Family Ml Lexrafion Avenue New York. N.Y. 10022 was killed in the Battle of the Bulge; my mother died shortly thereafter; and my father died the day after my brother'! body was brought home. FW: Didn't you lose another brother as well? LYHDE: I did. My greatest fan. He was killed as a result of an auto accident He was thrown out of the car, and I watched him die. ~ FW: Were you worried what might happen when "The Paul Lynde Show" went on the air? LYNDE: Worried? Frantic! My name would be on the show! There would be a stigma if I failed. I didn't need the series--I was doing fine without it! But once I got involved, it has been on my mind every moment! FW: How did you support yourself before you got started in show business? LYNDE: I did things like sell blood. 1 think the worst job I had was working as an ambulance driver. I took it after I saw an ad that I could get a free apartment with it I didn't know that meant I waa the only driver on duty--24 hours a day! It wasn't too bad until one day I was sent to pick up someone at his bou*e. When I walked in, he waa obviously dead, t rushed out again, put the keys on the seat of the ambulance, and left on the spot. I don't think I was letting him down-after all, be was quite dead. For all I know, the ambulance is still sitting then! FW: Where do you Jive now? LYNDE: I have a gorgeous home above the Sunset Strip. As a Jingle man. with all the taxes one has to pay, I can't really afford that kind of a home. But I want it anyway. I live very high. I have a Mercedes 28O convertible that mostly siti in the garage because I want the luxury of a chauffeur taking me to work.' The kmteat trip I like to take is 20 mif-lyf I get claustrophobia in a car. That's why I don't like to fly. FW: Have you ever had any ctaae catts on a plane? LYNH: Once I took Air France and we landed in Gander. This waa in 1954, before jets. It waa just a refueling stop, but when we started to take off, there waa this funny noise. The pilot put on the brakes, and you could smell rubber burnmf-and the hangar* came right at us! The plane finally went up on its noee, and all of the straps broke. It was just awful! It turned out to be a faulty battery or something. But the personnel waa screaming and swearing in French! I can tell you one ming: From then on I've Mown on American planes, becaiae if someone yeB» "We're crashing!"--I want in to understand them! (01 r MAIL 10 DAY NO-RISK COUPON TODAY! PALM COMPANY.
