Thompson Thursday announced his candidacy on the nonpartisan judicial ballot for the office of Ingham county probate judge.

Mr. Thompson is 43, married and the father of two children. He lives at 412 North Clemens avenue. He has been actively engaged in the practice of law in this community since 1929 with the exception of time spent in the army of the United States during World War II. In 1942 he volunteered for active service and was placed on duty in August of that year.

He served in the Pacific theater for two and a half years, during which time he was commended twice and awarded the bronze star for conduct in connection with military activities against the enemy. On being relieved of his overseas assignment in June, 1945, he was assigned to duty as officer in charge of an air intelligence contact unit, serving at various stations in the continental United States until his release in January, 1946. At this time he resumed his law practice with the firm of Gregg, Thompson, Glassen and Parr in Lansing. In 1946 he was designated special assistant Judge prosecuting Louis E. Coash attorney by Circuit and Richard Foster, special grand jury prosecutor.

In this capacity he was in active charge of the investigation of bribery of public officers by the operators of gambling and establishments. That investigation resulted in the arrest and conviction of a former Lansing chief police, a retired captain of the Michigan state police, and operators of gambling devices in this county. He is affiliated with various fraternal, civic and church organizations and is a member of several veterans' organizations. He also has served as legal advisor to veterans' counselling center for the past two-and-a-half years without compensation. Five Small Blazes Keep Firemen Busy Three car fires, a grass blaze and burning rubbish provided the fire department with five runs since Wednesday noon.

The grass fire at 1135 Platt street at 1:56 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and it threatened nearby buildings before firemen put it out. A cigaret in the front seat cushion caused a fire damaging the automobile owned by C. E. Pickens at 314 South Logan street at 6:29 o'clock Wednesday evening, and an automobile owned by Gerald Griffin, North Cedar street, was set on fire by a short circuit in the wiring under the dashboard. Firemen made a run to Shiawassee street and Capitol avenue at 9:01 o'clock Thursday morning to put out a car fire caused by a defective light fitxure.

The car was owned by Charles Huff of 322 North Butler boulevard. The rubbish fire was too near buildings at Baker and Cedar streets. 83526 Enters Race ROSS D. THOMPSON Shiawassee Man Held in Attack G. M. Wiggins Accused of Chasing Kin with Axe State police arrested George H. Wiggins, 36, of R.

1, Okemos (Woodhall township, Shiawassee county), Wednesday on a charge of chasing his wife, Myrtle, 37, and son, Ronnie, 3, from the house with an axe. State police lodged Wiggins in the Lansing jail overnight and he was to be taken sometime Thursday to Owosso, where the Shiawassee county prosecutor will be asked to issue a warrant for felonious assault. He denies threatening the members of his famliy with the axe. Mrs. Wiggins told state police that Wiggins drove her and the boy from the home after an argument about back payments on the house.

"I asked him what he was going to do about the back payments on the house," she said, "and he grabbed the "I'm going to kill you and Ronnie!" Mrs. Wiggins quoted her husband as saying. The axe, she said, was taken from him after he had chased them into the yard. Mrs. Wiggins told officers she hit her husband with a potato masher.

State police said Wiggins had a big welt on one arm, where he had been struck. Local Firm Is Low On State Project Brothers Construction company, Lansing, was low bidder for 8 contract to remodel offices of the public service commission in the state office building, it was announced Thursday by Clarence H. Rosa of the state building and construction division. The bid of the local firm was $40.666, Rosa said. Bids of three other construction firms were 000, $47,000 and $70,000, respectively.

Contract for the work must be let by the state administrative board. The remodeling will consist of removing vaults and partitions from the south wing on the fifth floor of the state office building to make one large work room, and installation of portable glass partitions to provide private office space for some of the personnel. W. Parmeter 1 to Be Returned for Burial Funeral services for Seaman First Class Herbert W. Parmeter of Morrice, who died in Scotland February 28, 1944. will bel held from the Gorsline Runciman funeral home Saturday at 2:30 p. m.

The federal -state crop reporting service said the crop, "one of the best in recent years," will total al about 1,050,000 crates. Weiss Again Heads Mediation Board Senate Confirmation Is Needed on Appointment of Philip Weiss of Detroit as chairman of the state labor mediation board for a term ending July 1, 1951, was announced Thursday by Governor Sigler.

Senate confirmation is required. Weiss, who began the practice of law in Detroit in 1932, was first appointed commissioner of the labor mediation board in March, 1948, and was named chairman of the board in July of the same year. He was reappointed chairman on July 1, 1945. In 1939 Weiss was named legal advisor to the Michigan department of state, and has served as chairman of the license appeal board for the department.
