HEMITEMnE to Officers 1 Longview's first television station in almost 30 years -KLMG-TV, Channel 51 will go on the air this summer as a network affiliate of CBS Inc. Officials of the proposed UHF station reached an agreement with CBS in late December, saying they planned strong emphasis on local and regional news as well as offering network programming. The station received a boost in November when the Longview City Council approved some $6 million in tax-free revenue bonds to fund constructipn of KLMG's facilities. According to Mrs.

Clara McLaughlin, president of KLMB-TV the station's parent company, Channel 51 will be housed in the former Rollins Elementary School building on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The structure offers 18,000 square feet of studio and office space and will require some $300,000 to renovate the building for use by KLMG. "We are looking forward to joining the number one network in presenting the best possible combination of local, regional and network news, sports, and entertainment," said Mrs. McLaughlin, who formerly hosted a talk show on a Houston TV station.

In February 1982, the Federal Communications Commission granted a construction permit for Channel 51, which will serve 20 counties in Northeast Texas. Included in the station's service area will be Gregg, Harrison, Upshur, Panola, Smith, Anderson, Angelina, Camp, Cherokee, Henderson, Houston, Hunt, Marion, Nacogdoches, Rains, Rusk, Shelby. Van Zandt and Wood counties. The Longview station's tower site is located near Arp in Smith County, and will be 1,749 feet above mean sea level. According to figures supplied the City Council, KLMG's cost for equipment, land and improvements is $5.7 million.

Initially the station will have 41 employees, including 15 in news, 12 in operations, seven in sales and seven in administration. Directors of KLMB-TV Inc. have obtained a signed agreement to purchase FCC permits from three pro posed stations Channel 19, an NBC station in Nacog doches, Channel 20 in Sherman-Denison, and Channel 42 in Paris.
