Dennis Hopper, Dean Stockwell and Russ Tamblyn had much in common. They started fast and scored big. Then they turned the '60s into a near-obsession. Eventually, their lives and careers were wobbling. "We were all out there, looking for work together," Tamblyn recalls. Hopper and Stockwell found it. inanKS to meaty roles in the David Lynch movie "Blue Velvet." Tamblyn flailed. "I figured that maybe two out of three wasn't bad," "I had resigned Tamblyn myself to thinking that I would always be known as Russ Tamblyn of 'West Side Story " He's not anymore. He's now iir-stantly spotted as the mad psychiatrist on "Twin Peaks," which returns Sunday. And it was Lynch, again, who revived his career. Tamblyn was 1 1 when he co-starred in "The Boy With Green Hair," a 1948 classic that starred Stockwell. He went on to make two towering movie musicals, the 1954 "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and the '61 "West Side Story." Then he simpjy quit "In the TV BEST BETS Tonight Rock-umentary "48 Hours" has trimmed its 90-minute Paul McCartney profile into an hourlong rerun. 8 p.m. (33 : Drama-comedy i In its first three weeks, "Northern Exposure" has emerged as the summer's best surprise. 10 p.m. CD Friday Sports As the Goodwill Games continue on cable's WTBS, there's a Tiger-Red Sox game at 7:30 p.m. on channels 3, 6 and 12. For some viewers, the game will wipe out two networks. Much later, he was told that such glasses have been tested at UCLA, to see if they have a calming effect. "I do feel pretty relaxed at the end of the day, so maybe they work." Or maybe it's just relaxing to return to stardom, after a 29-year pause. Saturday Comedy (?) Be wary, folks. Just before the splendid "Golden Girls," NBC has unearthed a fresh episode of the oft-awful "13 East. ' 8:30 Laughs, cops Fox is nudging "Cops" to its new 9 p.m. slot. To get us ready, it's rerunning an hour of standup comics at 8. Sunday Dark doings The two-hour "Twin Peaks" opener dark, elusive, fascinating and consumately crafted reruns. 9 p.m. SS Rock spectacle Madonna closes her "Blonde Ambition" tour with a live concert at 9 p.m. It's only on HBO, so find someone who has the pay-cable channel. More comedy "New Attitude begins its summertime run, with Sheryl Lee Ralph and Moms Day in a comedy set in a beauty salon.
