Lone Pilgrim News Good morning to all of our friends! I hope everyone is doing well as we go into the month of July. I would like to wish everyone that was born in the month of July a Happy birthday, and hope you have many, many more. Sunday morning service was very uplifting and spiritual. Pastor message was taken from Psalms 96: 1-2 with the subject: You Praise Me in the Midst of a Bad Get well wishes are extended to all sick and shut in and around the community, state and the nation. We are praying for you and hope you are better soon.

Upcoming events, mark your calendars: Business meeting July 28. Board meets at noon, church congregation at 1 p.m. All members are asked to be present. Annual Choir Day, Sunday, July 29, at 1p.m. All choirs, solo singers, quartet groups, praise dancers are invited to attend.

Come one, come all to this event. Mass Choir Rehearsal, Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Please be present. Adam recovering from recent surgery in Jackson Sympathy is given to the McClendon family in the passing of Gloria McClendon. Her funeral services were held last Saturday at Midway M.B. Church. Remember her family in your prayers. Holifield Funeral was in charge of arrangements.

Arlone Dozier has had surgery and is now home being taken care of by her daughters, Jennie and Lorraine. She is doing well. Adam Shepard, Delie grandson was admitted to the Hospital on the Fourth of July, had surgery on the fifth and is now home doing well. He is now the active little boy who is into everything. When he got still, we knew it was something wrong.

Marty Shepard departed last Saturday to Philadelphia, to visit with his daughter. They will be returning to Mississippi the middle of August. Pastor James Clark will be at Mt. Moriah on July 22, 2 p.m. Come and enjoy the services.

Patty Odom is home from her visit with her daughter and first grandchild Parker M. Wilson. They had a wonderful time. L.D. Barron was at home from Chicago visiting with his mother Barron.

Also Jackie Barron of Toledo, Ohio, and Bobbie Brant and husband from Baton Rouge, spent the weekend with their aunt L.D. and Mrs. Barron attended church while he was here. Kent Odom is still in Lackey Hospital. Remember him in your prayers and visit with him.

Dr. Locord Wilson and Tionia Wilson of Houston, Texas, spent several days in Chicago attending the Cornelius family reunion. They had a wonderful time. Tom and Dr. Locord Wilson motored to Chicago for family reunion.

The festivities were held at a resort and they had a wonderful time. They are back home safe. Dr. Tomika Wilson Greer, her girls, Jayla and Tamyra, along with her sister, Tiona Wilson, motored from Houston to spend the week with their parents, Tom and Dr. Locord Wilson.

They will be attending their cousin Ashley wedding on Saturday in Jackson. Jerry Jones is home and doing well. Remember him and his wife Betty in your prayers. I have thoroughly enjoyed the good vegetables I have gotten from Dunbrokus in Forest. The service is courteous and friendly, the vegetables are home grown, picked daily.

It is owned by Tom and Mary Ferguson. Tell them I sent you. Everything is really good. Bro. Tevin Nickols taught the Mass Sunday School Class last Sunday.

He did a wonderful job. Next Sunday Mass Sunday School teacher will Sis. Pam Banks. Everyone is invited to attend. Happy July birthday: Randy Lewis and twin Sandra Johnson 14, Larisa Riley Page 16, Janell Ward 19, Sylvia Kennedy 25, and Shirley Williams 25.

Former Chancellor Dannye Hunter will be missed Our prayers are with Stacy Hunter Duron and William (Will) Garner in the loss of their father and grandfather, Dannye L.

Hunter, who passed away Thursday, July 12, at the home of his special caregiver, Martha Hunter Stobaugh, after having been released from the University Medical Center last Tuesday. Dannye was a public servant most of his legal career of 47 years, having served as Youth Court Judge, County Attorney, State Bar Commissioner, President of the Scott County Bar Association, Assistant District Attorney, District Attorney for the Eighth Judicial District and Chancery Judge for the Second Judicial District. Acelebration of Dannye life will be held at the Scott County Courthouse in Forest Saturday, July 21, at 2 p.m. This celebration is open to all who want to attend and participate in the celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, Dannye requested that memorials be made to the Garner Ole Miss Educational that has been established for his grandson, William Joseph Garner, II at Community Bank.

Wolf Funeral Services in Morton is in charge of arrangements. Our prayers are with Scott County Youth Court Administrator, Mrs. Priscilla Glover Butler, who is hospitalized at the University Medical Center after having undergone surgery Thursday, July 12. She was honored Tuesday before the surgery by members of the Youth Court family with a purple and gold reception. Mrs.

Katrina Thames and other DHS Family and Services staffers coordinated this surprise reception where she was presented a beautiful bouquet of red roses from Petals Florist. Youth Court Prosecutor Constance Slaughter-Harvey served as mistress of ceremony. Please continue to remember Mrs. Butler in your prayers. Please remember Mrs.

Thomas (Ann Brand) Colbert of Flowood in your prayers during her recovery from outpatient surgery. Our prayers are with her. Congratulations to Teselyn Melton Funches and Constance Slaughter-Harvey on their recognition as during the State Bar Luncheon held at the San Destin Hilton. The luncheon was held Thursday during the State Bar Convention. Both attorneys were honored along with 18 other lawyers who provided leadership and hard work to the Women in the Profession Committee.

Constance Slaughter-Harvey and her family (Constance, James, and James, III Burwell enjoyed the fun, beach, water and fireworks during the State Bar Convention. Local attorney Rick Clark and family also enjoyed the convention and activities. Not only does Mrs. Doris Delcomyn celebrate July 4 as Independence Day, she also celebrates her birthday on July 4. This year she enjoyed a birthday party with her family including her husband, son and daughter-in-law and friends at Mississippi Care Center where she also enjoyed her cake, yellow flowers and gifts.

Happy belated birthday! Congratulations to Jade Olivia Morgan, daughter of Carolyn and David Fuqua and granddaughter of the late W.L. and Olivia K. Slaughter. Jade, who attended Forest Elementary School, received her Bachelor of Arts in Gender and Sexuality Studies with a specialization in Social Justice from Ohio State University on June 10. proud of Jade.

Way to go! Class reunions were held this past weekend and we understand there was much fun and fellow- shipping at Hawkins Middle School and Crudup Ward Activity Center. Alumni members celebrated Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and Sherman Scott High School Organization members also celebrated and enjoyed this annual event. Details will be shared in next column. Members of the Crudup-Bennett Family Reunion Planning Committee held July 6-8 at the Crudup Ward Activity Center included chairperson Annie Lowery, co-chairpersons Deonia Jones and Ike Crudup, Lucy Spann, Andrae Ward, Debra Lowery, Mamie Crudup, Bobbie Hollins, Ray Harper, Claudia Lee, Andrew Crudup, D. L.

Bennett, David Spann, Steven Ward, Kathern Qualls, Joe Ann Pheal, William Sturkin, Jr. and Joshua James. The youth talent was awesome and will be included in next column. The 10th Annual Slaughter Library School Supply Project, co-sponsored with the Scott County Bar Association. Forest Rotary Club, and Legacy Education and Community Empowerment Foundation, Inc.

(Legacy) will distribute school supplies and bookbags to students who are in need of supplies. Priority will be given to students whose parents are unemployed. Applications may be obtained from the Library or the Slaughter-Harvey Law Office (Legacy). The Community Choir will perform Saturday, July 28, at Mt. Carmel M.B. Church at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 29, at the Scott County District Building at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited.

For more information please contact Rev. Walter Patrick or Rev. Melvin Moore. Mt. Hebron Youth Department will sponsor a cookout at Place, Saturday, July 21.

They will have hamburgers and fish plates for sale. Last Wednesday evening, July 11, E.G. Patrick was surprised with a birthday party in the community center. The very building that he donated years ago as a community center was the site of his first surprise party in his 84 years of life. He was pleased and thankful for all acts of kindness shown.

The party and fireworks display was hosted by his great-grandsons, Ladarrius and Christian Evans, and his grandson, Patrick Harper all of Jackson. Also in attendance were Margaret Patrick, Ruby Warnsley, Shirley and Len Hutchins and grandson Charlie, and several of the children visiting the center. Scott County District Auxiliary hosted their annual Convention July 13-14, at the District Building. We had a great time. The was dynamic with great ministers, i.e., Rev.

Namon Womack Rev. Marvin McLaurin God The Rev. Perry Fletcher (Women of Wisdom); and the closing period of consecration by Rev. George Macon. The Christian Education period chaired by Mrs.

Bettye Earby and the district church representative was informative and on time. They explored the fruit of the spirit. The skits done by the minister wives and deaconesses both expressed the need for wholeness and balance in the busy lives of women, especially Last but not least the dynamic speeches from our and presidents. Hats off to St. Mark for the delicious food and the great welcome program.

Curtis McAfee and will continue nightly thru Friday beginning at 7:30 p.m. The speaker for the week is Rev. Carl Bickham. Scott County District Congress will be held July 26-28 at the Scott County District Building in Morton. The Congress will begin with a music workshop July 23-25.

The choir will perform at the musical next Thursday evening at 7 p.m. with annual sermon given by the dynamic Rev. Neal Keeton, Pastor of Mt Carmel M.B., Morton. Youth Workshop will begin next Thursday evening at 7 p.m. and will continue during the Congress setting Friday and Saturday with the finale at the Youth Rally on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Classes and Workshops will begin Friday, 8 a.m. Certified courses: Christian Stewardship, Spiritual Formation, the Computer in the Life of the Church. Non-certified course: 30 Days to Understanding the Bible. Classes: 21 Reasons Bad Things Happen to Good People and AIDS its Effect on Society Our sympathy goes out to Rev. Henry Patrick and family in the loss of their sister, Linda Lois Scott who passed away Friday morning, July 13.
