Whitefish ire Department spoke to that City Council Monday night about creating a new fire district for surrounding area Brockle said the idea is to provide protection to all the people in the given area He said at this time many people don't know they need to contract with the fire department for protection Many residents are not covered while their neighbor 10 feet away may have contracted with the fire department for protectionand that this situation is creating problems he said Brockle said that the men in the fire department are going to take a public opinion poll today to find out how people feel about the need for a new district and If it should be financed through a flat fee or on a levy basis He said more discussions on the subject will be with lathead County fire department officials and state fire officials Brockle said the district would be set up in the usual way beginning with a petition and council approval He said right now they have about 900 private contracts and he estimates a total of about 1200 need the protect tion Questions from the council Included legal liability on the part and if the city would want to contract with the fire department for a new
