LOCAL STATE NEWS-LEADER 2A Saturday, February 2, 2008 AROUND THE OZARKS Missouri Kansas VjCity rf)--) Holden to go before Sprlngtleld commission judicial 3- Bolivar Lamar Wlllard stranorq ai Carthage Jingfield Tension between prosecutors and Holden appears to have abated somewhat during the past year, as several serious felony cases were tried in his courtroom in 2007. Holden's acknowledgment came during a farewell reception for Burrell. The judge will officially begin his appointment with the Missouri Court of Appeals on Monday, he said. Friday was his last day in Greene County Circuit Court, where he served as presiding judge. Most recently, Burrell handled the civil case docket left by retiring judge J.

Miles Sweeney. He had previously presided over juvenile and criminal cases for the court. Burrell was tapped by Gov. Matt Blunt in December to fill an opening in the Missouri Southern District Court of Appeals. He will be replaced by Michael Cordonnier, a Springfield civil attorney.

By Dirk VanderHart Greene County Circuit Court Judge Calvin Holden acknowledged Friday he has an upcoming hearing with a state commission that handles complaints about judges. Holden said he'll go before the Commission on Retirement, Removal and in April. The Holden scheduled hearing is the result of a complaint Greene County Prosecutor Darrell Moore filed against the judge in December 2006. Holden did not specifically cite what issues the commission will address. He noted, though, that it had nothing to do with allegations he bullied QSPRINGFIELD Police identify man dead from tower fall Springfield police have identified a man who either fell or jumped to his death from a downtown cell phone tower Wednesday as Michael E.

Young, 45, of Springfield. Young was spotted climbing the Alltel tower, at Benton Avenue and Tampa Street, about 3:22 p.m. Wednesday. Police used loudspeakers to try to talk him down from his perch, about 200 feet up the tower, but were unsure whether he heard them because of the high winds. About 4:30 p.m., Young fell or jumped, falling about 50 feet before becoming entangled in the tower's structure.

Shortly afterward, he fell again. His foot caught in a joint of the tower and he hung upside down about 100 feet from the ground. It took about three hours for rescue workers to reach him after that. By the time they did, Young was dead, police said in a news release. Police were able to notify Young's next of kin after "an exhaustive search," the release said.
