Paul Woods spent the first of the week with relatives in Welch, Okla. Mr. and Mrs. V. P.

Hall of Parsons came down Monday evening to visit their parents. To the "newly weds" there is no place like home. Mrs. Wampler came home Monday evening after being in Parsons one week with her daughter. Myrtle, who is undergoing the ordeal of an operation.

She reports her doing as well as can be expected. Miss lieulah Hallock spent last week and this in Carthage, with her sister, Mrs. F. M. Kudu, and family.

Pete Hall is building an addition to their home one nide west of town, where he and wife and Mrs. Hall's parents are living. Allen and Charles Piatt ate their Thanksgiving dinner with their parents, James Piatt and wife. Ed Martin, who has lived in Mound Valley for several months, spent Sunday in Labette. Mrs.

Dallas Brown spent last Saturday and Sunday in Parsons with her parents, Ed Black and wife. Mrs. Morris, of Morehead, spent Thanksgiving with her daughter, Mrs. Faul McConnell, and family. John Bray and wife spent Thanksgiving in Chanute with their daughter, Mr.

and Mrs. Bud Taylor, and cousin, Henry Bray, and family. Dave Hall of Kansas City came home last Wednesday to attend the wedding of his brother, Verne, and to visit his parents and other relatives, returning to Kansas City, Sunday evening. At the home of her parents 1J miles north of town, Miss Aria Dunning was married last Thursday at 3 p. tn.

These young people are so well and favorably known that they need no comment from us, only we extend the choicest blessings on this worthy voung couple. Toman's house caught fire and burned to the ground, only a part of the furniture was saved and no clothing only what they had on. The burning of one's home is sad as the contents can never be replaced. It was partly insured. Geo. McConnell broke all records in hnuling big loads this week when he brought to town and sold to Frank Crawford, one load of hogs which brought him over he had 35 head hogs which average 175 pounds apiece.

Miss Vivian Kesler of Mound Valley was the guest of Hallie Rude from Wednesday evening of last week until Sunday. Fay Rude and Bertha Woodaide visited at the home of T. Hallock and family last Sunday. The crew of Bell Telephone workers are stationed in Labette this week working on the new line that they are putting in from Parsons to Columbus. Miss Marley visited our schools Wednesday and spent the night with Mrs.

Stilwell. Our literary society will have to build hall to hold the crowd that attends. Last Friday night the room was crowded to a jam and there were more on the DUtside and went back home than was in the house. Woman Suffrage was debated and decided unanimously favor of the affirmative. Miss Fay Rude and friend, Miss Bertha Woodside of Carthage, just to be romantic, walked home a distance of SK miles to spend Thanksgiving with II I I tnteristtina ncig Corrpondenti.

I I I Mrs. Ona Pollock of Mound Valley visited last week with her daughter, Mrs. Claud Robbins. We hear the trade of the restaurant from Frank Robinson to Ryker Arrow-smith fell through with and Mr. Robinson will still be in Hallowell.

Last Friday i'iyker Arrowsmith hud their sale at the Pendergrass farm south of town. Lorna Sibley of Columbus spent several days last week with friends in Hallowell. Otis Everett and family spent Thanksgiving with his brother, Buren Everett, and family. The meeting at the Christian church still continues. Bro.

Early gives some fine truthful sermons that come straight home to you. Good music, good interest. Come out and help. Thus far there has been eight additions. Clifford Wilson of Columbus was in Hallowell on business, Wednesday.

Jame3 Hensley and wife went to Mattoon, Thursday, to visit Mrs. Hensley's relatives. This is their first trip in forty years. Anderson Clevenger and family and Mr. Bonebrake spent Thanksgiving in Carl Junction.

Clay Smith and Wm. Wimp went to Piano, 111., as a compliment from the Independent Harvester Co. of Piano. They also expect to visit the stock show and races at Chicago. Alec Beggs joined them at Columbus and went with them.

R. S. Smith and family from north of McCune visited their cousin, Joe French and family. They all took dinner at O. C.

French's, Thanksgiving. Little Maurine McKee has been on the sick list this week but'is improving. Bobbin's sale was held on Tuesday. Quite a dismal day to be out, but the people go to the sales just the same. Shot guns, rifles and ammunition, at Baxter's hardware store.

ALTAMONT. Lyman Dennis and wife returned Saturday from a ten days visit with their son. Earl, at Liberty, and daughter, Mrs. Etta Thomas, at Humbolt. Mrs.

Watson and daughter, Bessie, and Mrs. O. Vanbibber spent Thanks giving with relatives in CofTeyville. Frank Randal is lying very low. He had a bad hemorrhage Thursday night.

J. Lewis Kyser and wife of Howard, spent Thanksgiving with Prof. Kyser and wife, and returned to their homeTucsday morning. H. E.

Read and wife spent Thanksgiving with Mrs. Read's sister, Mrs. Butts, west of Mound Valley. Miss Mary Richy spent the latter part of last week with her uncle, Oris Keller and family near Valeda. Harry Beck and John Windbigler returned recently from Texas where they went to purchase land.

We understand Mr. Windbigler bought 21) acres for he expects to raise bananas. While there they witnessed a Mexican bull fight. Word was received here that W. J.

Anderson and family had arrived at their new home in Texas. Mrs. C. W. Parker is visiting her daughter, Mrs.

Carrie Johnson, at Independence. Mrs. Kniss visited her son at Chanute the past week. The program given by the public school last Wednesday, was good and quite a few visitors were present. Little Gladys David is on the sick list Mrs.

Stella Read is spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs ALer, of Md. Valley. The business of the interurban rail way is to be all closed up by December 'U. First payment made on the bonds und then work is to begin in earnest.

Sprague, and family this week. Jas. A. Sisney has the prize two-year-j old colt in this township. It's a beauty.

Word from John Wilson, a former Montana boy, informs his friends he is i railroading in Cleveland, Ohio. Mrs. Nora Shaw, of the Cherokee i county high school faculty, spent her Thanksgiving with home folks. Co. Supt.

Ida B. Marley was in our town Monday, visiting school. She will be through ill about a week. Miss Callio Jones will spend Christmas week in Kansas City visiting with relatives. Emmett Sprague and Hobart Holt are in Neosho township running a saw mill for R.

W. Jones. Word from Thos. Hinman, who was located in Ft. Presidio, states he has been transferred to South America.

Ed. Hildreth of Altamont, is over looking after his farm east of town. Uncle Jack Williams has rented it for the coming year and moved onto the farm this week. Mr. Kracaw will have a sale and move to Missouri.

We regret to lose him and his estimable family from our township. We wish them success and happiness in their new home. Judson Cook and wife have moved down from Linn county and will make this their home. W. I.

Wolverton was transacting business in Parsons Wednesday. He marketed about $115.00 worth of pecans. Alva Evan's mule team ran away with the stock cutter, cutting Alva's hand and otherwise injuring him quite seriously. Miss Edna Holt will have a chicken pie supper at her school at Center Valley Dec. for the benefit of the school library.

An interesting program will be rendered. All are invited. Thos. Snyder and family spent Thanksgiving week with their parents. C.

A. Spurgeon has bought the farm known as the Hevel place, north of town. J. M. Sisney had some land buyers from Cassville, looking for farms.

C. Parsons has purchased 80 acres of land from N. D. Sturm, part of it lies in Labette and part in Cherokee county. They expect to build on it soon.

Miss Anna Clayton spent Saturday and Sunday at her home near Labette. Clarence McClure is assisting J. E. Rice with his farm work this week. H.

E. Williams, Dan Buchanan and J. E. Kice were out at the school house Monday working on the well. Clarence McClure and Miss Anna Crayton attended a pie und box supper at Ground-hog school house in Cherokee county last Wednesday night.

Dulittle, Misses Blanche Barnes, Marie Ward and Pearl Clark of Mound Valley attended the box supper at the Parkville school house Wednesday evening. The neighbors and friends of E. Bowman met and surprised him with an oyster supper Friday evening. Sam Nelson and family were entertained by Mr. Allen and wife of Edna, Thanksgiving.

B. Newlon ia here for a visit with relatives, on his way to Miami for the winter. Mrs. S. Coulter, who has been quite ill, is improving.

Miss Lila Bartlett is expected home Christmas from a year's visit in Idaho. The Wednesday club met this week with Mrs. Fairfax Barnes. Fourteen ladies responded to roll call. After the usual club work a social time was enjoyed.

The ladies regret very much to lose Mrs. Barnes from their club. She has for several years been one of the prominent members. C. R.

Shultes is on the sick list this week. The revival services are still continuing at the M. E. church, and will be the source of much good. Dr.

E. E. Liggett visited Chetopa in the interest of his profession Tuesday. Twelve miles west of the Slaughter farm a ten barrel oil well was brought in last week at a depth of 400 feet. An alarm of fire turned in from the residence of Mrs.

Blanche Manson was caused by a chimney burning out. No terious damage was done. Mrs. VonTrebra and Mrs. J.

Scott Walker visited in Parsons Monday. Wyman and Margaret Frogley are sick with the fever. Mrs. Flora Scott and Miss Clara Scott of Los Angeles, are expected in Chetopa the first of the week for a visit with Mrs. J.

S. Walker. Mrs. Manson entertained the bridge club Tuesday afternoon in a very charming manner. Mis.

Nance, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Craft, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bush and children, Harry Craft und Misses Nellie and Helen Craft spent Thanksgiving in Oswego, guests of E.

at tliu opera house was an enjoyable affair. Jim Patterson, the show man, and a former resident of Chetopa, visited his mother here last week. A.C. Merrill and wife of Caney, came over the last of the week for a visit with home folks. Messrs.

Foster of this city, in the presence of the immediate family and i a few intimate friends. After congrat-1 illations a bountiful dinner was served, i combining a wadding and Thanksgiving feast. Those who attended from here: Mrs. Lizzie Brashear and Miss Stella Otterman. The bride and groom came home Friday and went to the farm, where they will reside, and the best wishes of the entire community is extended to them.

i Miss Agnes Robbins has returned from Fredonia and taken her place back at the glass plant. Mrs. Paul Richardson and sister, Miss Margaret, of Independence, were here Tuesday visiting relatives. i Mrs.Wm. Poole of Indianapolis, arrived here last week to spend the winter with her brother, J.

L. Masters and family. Lloyd and Byron Wise of Independence, spent Thanksgiving here with their father, L. H. Wise, and numerous young friends.

I D. H. Wallingford and family spent Thanksgiving in Iola. i Miss Josephine Wilson, who is attending Emporia College, came home last Wednesday evening to spend the week with her parents. Mrs, James Piper and son, Calvert, of Parsons, came down Thursday and remained several days in the city, the guests of Mrs.

Geo. Roller. Mrs. Geo. Roller pleasantly entertained a few of her friends at the home of her parents, E.

A. Richcreek, last Wednesday evening. A two course luncheon was served. Mrs. Sarah Sackett went to Coffey-ville Saturday to visit a few days with her daughter.

Mrs. Ina liicknell of Harmon, was here several days visiting her parents, W. H. Sleeth and family. Mrs.

Lizzie Brashear was attending to business matters in Columbus and Fulton the first of the week. Word was received here Monday of the serious illness of Mrs. Jack Volmer in Little Rock, but at this writing she is some better. Miss Lois Lear and brother, Harry, went to Ft. Scott last Thursday, and remained until Sunday evening, guests of Jas.
