SATURDAY MORNING THE SHREVEPORT TIMES NOVEMBER 25, 1922 TO AID IN EDUCATION School Superintendent Calls on Organization for Support During Next Week Letters to the various civic and fraternal organizations of Caddo parish have been sent out by C. E. Byrd, parish superintendent of schools, calling upon them to assist in the observance of national education week, beginning December 3. Ministers in local churches were also asked to help by using topics on education in their sermons on the first day of the week. Programs suggested by the parish department of education have been sent to ench school.

Reon, the young negro who was to have been hanged here Friday morafor the murder of Charles Hevens, an aged apostolic preacher, near his hone a few miles out of Vinton, was reprieved by Governor Parker Thursday according to advices received at the sheriff's ofthat Reon had returned to Lake fice. Marshall, Texas, Nov. Collector Gordon Bell has received check from the Texas and Pacific Railway Company for $42,317.15, the amount of the state and county taxes for 1922. The matter of paying the taxes was taken up by Judge W. H. Strength with the Texas and Pacific railway and the company immediately gent the check for the full amount, the state getting $27,000 and the county $15,317.15.

SHINGLE MILL BURNS. Special to The Times. Texarkana, Nov. Hubbard Shingle Mill, in West Fourteenth street, was damaged by fire at 10 o'clock last night. The roof of the building was falling in when the fire was discovered, but prompt action by the fire department prevented total lose.

It is estimated that. the total damage is about $2,000. So far as could be learned there was no insurance. The cause of the fire has not been definitely ascertained. May Resign Rumor saye that Mahlon Pitney, justice of the United States supreme court, may resign.

The repair work on the interior of the Jewella community church has been completed and the Sunday services will be resumed, with Sunday school at 9:30 o'clock and Christian Endeavor at 6:30 o'clock. The church is being remodeled and newly painted which has made great improvement in the building. New class rooms have been fitted up and an organized class with an A-1 school will soon be the record of the Sunday school.

THANKSGIVING MARKET. The Allendale Parent-teachers circle have completed their plans for 8 Thanksgiving market which they will hold on Wednesday, November 29, at Dreyfuss corner, Milam and McNeil street. Candies, cakes, pies, sandwiches, home made bread and other dainties will be on sale for Thanksgiving dinner. Patrons of the school are requested, by officers of the circle, to assist the children in the selection of their donations for the market. The patronage of friends will be appreciated.

Burks, charged with killing Henry Heffler, a North Tyler grocer, at his place of business here three weeks ago, began this afternoon after two days had been consumed selecting jury, Heffler was killed by masked highwaymen, it was said.

Mrs. Heffler was the only eye-witness to the killing. Testimony will be given that Burks was driven an alley in the rear of Heffler's store by Kay Levine of Tyler at the time of the shooting.
