I did enjoy not having to write a column. But, on the other hand, 1 thought of many things I wanted to tell you! --M-Charles Bright, minister of the Bagley Church of Christ, is the father of his first born, Kristopher, Todd. Said the proud father, "I knew I had an exceptional son. First time I walked into the nursery at the hospital there was the sign right on the end of the crib-'Bright Boy'." --M-Ricky Holmes of Coon Rapids had to wait almost 11 years to have a brother.

Kevin Eugene arrived Monday weighing nine pounds and seven ounces. Proud Father Larry Holmes immediately notified his brother, Gary Holmes, Coon Rapids football coach, that he'd have a full back for his team this fall! Granddad Oral Bullock knew it would be a boy. As he says, "My boy has girls, so my girl has boys." --M-Buy and wear a Poppy. Honor America's war dead. --M-Glad to have two of our regular correspondents back on the job.

Ethelean Severns has been caring for her mother and Irene Reynolds had dental surgery. We appreciated the efforts of their good substitutes, but welcome back the Jamaica and Yale "local itemizers." Bought some postage stamps out in Las Vegas, long, long ago in January. Ran across the holder. Know the delight ful little message inside the cover said; coming from that gambling town? "There will be much good fortune and you wil be appreciative and Sounds like a message from the government! A sign in fron of a service station said, "We furnish free aspirin and tender sympathy." --M-Mrs Ralph Starling, Ruth that is, will be cooking on TV Watch her on KRNT, channel 8 at 9:30 a Friday, May 23. --M-Rebecca Naylor, who is one Mrs Edna Hidlebaugh's three granddaughters wed Gary Lyon May 10 in Jefferson.

They were in Chicago on. their wedding trip when tough luck really hit They locked their car and were eating in a cafe. When they came out everything had been stolen from their car. This in eluded all their luggage. The bride lost her hair dryer and another important loss was her glasses.

They plan to attend Northwest Missouri college next fall. Hope they had insurance so they can afford wardrobes for college. --M-Sad to read that the Guthrie Center branch which used to operate on the Rock Island lines from Stuart to Guthrie Center ceased operation as of May 14 It used to run so regularly that Lela Stringer rode it forth and back from Monteith to Gu thrie to attend high school. One of the grandest of the Irish used to live near us in Stuart He was Pat Breheny who was the engineer. Once he took two of his sons, Ed and Bob, and me with him to the Center.

He let us ride back in the cab. Few thrills in my Ife have compared with that ride. We blew the whistle so often returning to Stuart, we darn near ran oul of steam to bring the engine back to the round house. The boys didn't follow their dad in railroading. One, Eddie Jester is a magician, and Bob Earle is an announcer at WHO --Id- Francis and Vernon Holmes and I took travelin' Ken to De Moines Sunday.

He joined the "Sell Iowa" tour which left Mon day for a 2,000 mile trip in 21 golden Buicks to San Francisco The 68 Iowa businessmen wil stop in Nebraska, Colorado Wyoming and Nevada befor the final cookout in A. Th members of the tour, their wiv es and other guests had a Poly nesian supper at the Holiday Inn South with a program. Some expected to be fed low; pork or beef at the supper. had a fruit and cottage cheesi salad, crab meat in avocad halves with fortune cookies fo dessert. Some of the fortune were made to order, reading "Iowa Caravan rolls to San Francisco," "Golden Gate meet Hawkeye State," and "lowans leave hearts in San Francisco.

Then, the wagonmaster Ken Fulk, secretary of the Iowa' State Fair board, appeared in a wonderful buckskin outfit and shaggy mustache, and gave some, of the rules. He explained that the trip was entirely too hazardous for the beautiful wiv-' es to undertake the perils of the; journey.

If those men don't have fun, I'll miss my guess! --M-- Ken's parting gift to the staff was to clean his desk and the spaces all around it. We really should take a picture. Sunday evening dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Vic Lyons at Yale were Mr and Mrs Ed Vance of Odell, Nebr; and Mrs Fred Watson. Mr Watson joined them in the evening. MARJOBIE JEAN CARLSON Mr and Mrs Charles Carlson of Palos Park, III, are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Marge, to Tim Kenan, son of Mrs LeRoy Van Gundy of Bagley, and the late Mr Kenan. The hrido-elect will receive her A degree in art education from Buena Vista college, Storm Lake, June 1. Her fiance graduated from the YJB Community school and is a senior at Bnena Vista.

No date has been set for the wedding. Nebraska Guests Sweet and Lynne Seagren, teachers in the Lincoln, Nebr, school system, Tjere weekend guests of Mr and Mrs Winfred Barrett and their grandson, Johnny Zanotti, of Des Moa guest in the Barrett home, ines. The Barretts became acquainted with their guests while on a tour of Canada last summer. Mae Stewart who also teaches in Lincoln, accompanied them. She was a guest of Mr and Mrs Elick Stewart.

She is the daughter of Mr Stewart. Minnesota. Guests -Mrs Mabel Winters and Mrs Ruth Drengsen of Granite Falls, Minn, were guests of Mrs Winters' sisters, Mrs Roy Ocheltree, Carrie Neal and Mrs Laura Crees, from Friday until Sunday. The Minnesotans also called on Mr Ocheltree in the Thomas Rest Haven and another sister, Mrs Orlo Whitten in her home in Coon Rapids. They also visited relatives in Jamaica and Bagley.

Honored on Birthday -Guests of Lessie Lewis Tuesday evening honored her on her birthday. Present were Mr and Mrs Mike Schnetter and Mary Sigler, Carroll; Zetta Lewis Don Deaton, Mrs Lanny Derry Kristy and Wade, Mr and Mrs Earl Lewis, Mr and Mrs Ross Jurgens and Tammy. Birthday cake and ice cream were served by Zetta Lewis Mrs Earl Lewis and Mrs Jurgens. Honors Cousin -Mrs Carl Boots entertained at dinner Sunday. Guests were Mr and Mrs Max Lathrop, Guthrie Center; Mrs Ida Boots and Fred Betts.

Mrs Lathrop, cousin of the hostess, was honored in celebra tion of her birthday. Mi- and Mrs Luther Hartman and Angela Lyn of Waukon arrived Friday evening to visit Mrs Hartman's parents, Mr and Mrs Floyd Betts, Julie and Joyce until Monday. The Hartmans visited his mother, Mrs Loretta Hartman, in Perry Sat wrday afternoon. They were supper guests of Mr and Mrs Lester Sloan and sons in Ogden brother and sister-in-law of Mr Hartman. Mr and Mrs Loren Gander of Corvallis, Mont, visited his brother, William Gander. Friends and relatives of Eliz abeth Whitman brought refreshments to help her celebrate her birthday. Included in the group were Ellen Long, Hazel Holmes, Mabel Morgan, Helen Mills, Beulah Whitman, Panora; Phyllis Wright, Rapids; Bertha Scott, Georgia Pangborn and Ella Belle Walton.

Thursday, May 15 Mrs Eva Kopaska ana Mrs Willard Kopaska visited several residents including Lillian Kopeska, Charles Smth and Anna Davidsen. William Gander was an overnight guest in the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs Carroll Gander, in Ankeny. His brother, Loren, took him to Ankeny. Guests of Rose McClelland included her daughters, Mrs Grace Hancock of Kansas City and Mrs Mabel Patterson of Linden. Mr and Mrs Earl Moore of Panora visited Alice Middleton.

Mrs Loftus Jensen visited her daughter, Lillian Kopeska. Friday, May 16 Honor Mrs Pangborn -Mrs Don Brown brought refreshments and honored her mother, Mrs Georgia Pangborn, in celebration of her birthday. Quests were Mrs Wayne Hedes and Mrs Inez Hunter of Scranton; Mrs Mary Simpkins of Jefferson; Mrs Arden Patterson and residents of the Home. Mr and Mrs Foster of Lewis-town, Mont, visited Laura Anderson. Mr Foster is a former tudent of Mrs Anderson.

Saturday, May 17 Edwin Adamson called on his wife, Susie, and several other residents. Harold Keister of Coon Rapids visited his father, Keister. Mr and Mrs Harley Hall called on his father, Clint Hall. The Bagley Federated Garden Club sent bibs and lap robes. Visitors of Eliza Hoyle were her daughter, Mrs Clarence Gotter, of Scranton and her grandson and family, Mr and Mrs Loren Gotter and Sherrie of Iowa Mrs Hancock and Mrs Patterson against visited Mrs Visitors of -were his daughter and tier kusbanck Mr and Mrs Paul Ludwig and family of Casey visited her father, Tom.

Farley. Sunday, 18 Mary Kennedy's visitors were her and their son froni Guthrie Center and Mr and Mrs Hugh Wells of Shehandoah. John Peckumn and Estell Peckumn visited Cora Peckumn. The Louis visited Grace Kile. Ruby Seibert and daughter of Adel called on Otis Moorhead.

Wayne Kopeska visited his wife. Mr and Mrs Arthur Christensen of Bagley called on several residents. Edwin Adamson visited has wife. Mrs Mildred Kinman and daughter of Guthrie Center called on their mother and grandmother, Myrtle Bigham. Nora Rose was a guest in the Frank Botts home.
