Publishers KENNETH ROBINSON Editor Second ciass postage paid at Bayard. Iowa 50029 SUBSCRIPTIONS S6 in Iowa $7 Elsewhere NATIONAL NEWSPAPER 1UT NN MEMBH-1975 THIS 'N THAT By A LOUISE ROBINSON We're all going to live in cities by July 1. Won't hurry you to pack and move, however. All towns will become cities as of July due to the New Home Rule laws which go into effect then Of course, Bagley is ahead of us. You have no doubt noticed that in their council proceedings it is the city of Bagley, not the town.

Used to be a municipality had to have a population of 2,000 or over to be known as a city, but no more. We cannow all hail one another as city cousins A visitor to the office from Coon Rapids suggests that it would have been nice if we could have been known as villages. Sounds homier, doesn't it? -M- The so-called "older" group in Bagley named themselves the 50 Club. Singers in the Bayard Methodist Church who are a bit older are the Sweet 60's. A senior group in Jefferson are the Mid Winter Club members.

Don't know what name the Bayard group will adopt When they were discussing names in Bagley someone mentioned the name of a club that had at one time been in existence. ItwastheElderbloom. Would be a good name now, for elders. -M- June 20 a caravan of pre-world War II cars, trucks and moto- cycles will take a three-day trip across Iowa. The tour will commemorate the Lincoln Highway beginnings, the first transcontinental motor route.

The route basically flollows Highway 30 across Iowa. The entourage departs at 9 a June 20 from June 21 the caravan will participate in the Rose Festival parade in State Center and will stop that night in Jefferson. Then the tour goes to the edge of Scranton and on to Denison, ending the afternoon of June 22 in Blair, Nebr. So if we in this area want to see the cars, looks like we should be in Jefferson the night of June 20 or north of Scranton the morning of June 22. Sounds interesting.

-M- We have some mighty fine correspondents to cover the cities of Jamaica and Yale and the Wichita area and Iva for Bayard. Now we have a most special correspondent from Lake San Marcos, California. Introducing Helen Cain, who wrote an article for the Bagley readers of the Gazette. Furthermore, she had it personally delivered to the Bagley correspondent by Dr Nguyen Huu of Saigon, Veitnam. The event took place June 12 when Dora Prescott entertained her parents, Vinal and Electa Prescott of Bagley; her brother, Mr and Mrs Jack Prescott of Juneau, Alska; Helen and Everett and Dr Huu.

The doctor delivered the item Sunday a upon his arrival in Bayard. Talk about speical and Everett are pretty special too. They have done so much in contacting Dr Huu at Camp Pendleton, Calif, a refugee center; In Stock For Immediate Delivery The extra heavy luxury railing with the custom look. Commercially rated. IOWA CALL US FOR READY MIX CONCRETE entertaining'him in their home until Ken and Bill Scarborough arrived to escort him to Iowa. It's all a long and exciting saga, which I assume the editor-in-chief will write. -M- Translated into English, the doctor's name is pronounced Win Who. I tell him that should really make him a "winner" in America and I hope It does. -M- How did we ever manage to survive, those of us who lived back in the days of well water arid "relief stations" at the end of the lot? How did we survive without all these new fangled commissions and bureaus who are protecting us from contamination? Now an authority, Richard Weickart, technical director of the Water Quality Research Council, says we should allow tap water to run for a minute each morning before using it to drink or for cooking.

A minute can be a long time to let water run. You see, water standing in pipes overnight can pick up undesirable elements, such as lead or cadmium. Hot water is more likely to Pick up trace elements from pipes than cold, so never use hot water for drinking or cooking. No, you should use up more energy by running fresh cold water and heating using it for cooking My, my isn't life getting complicated! -M- Lucky Darrell Netherton will spend the July 4th weekend in Philadelphia. There is to be a big celebration at Independence Hall the morning of the Fourth with Bob Hope as C.

As Darrell writes, "This next 18 months could be exciting for those of us who still have some patriotism left in us."
