Genna Hurst WEST POINT, Calif. Genna Hurst, of West Point, formerly of Longview, died March 27. Gena graduated from Longview High School, Southern Methodist University and the University of Houston.

Her careers were in real estate and education. Survivors include two brothers, Dr. C.R. Hurst of Tyler and W.P. Hurst Jr.

of Dallas. James L. 'Jim' Vaughan MARSHALL vices for James L. "Jim" Vaughan, 71, of Hallsville are set for 11 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2004, in Mulberry Springs Baptist Church in Hallsville with the Rev.

Jim Walsh and the Rev. Ron Holton officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home in Marshall. Mr. Vaughan died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, in Hallsville.

He was born Dec. 6, 1932, in Mount Pleasant to Van Vleet Vaughan and Elsie Mae Hinson Vaughan. He had worked for Texas Eastman of Longview. He was a draftsman engineer for 25 years. He married Edna Mae Holton on March 17, 1956, in Mount Pleasant.

Mr. Vaughan served in the U.S. Army with the rank of corporal in the Korean War. He enjoyed his friends, working on his land and watching over the pond and all the birds. He was a member of Mulberry Springs Baptist Church.

Mr. Vaughan was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Edna Vaughan of Hallsville; a son, Kelly Vaughan of Hallsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Lawrence Gonzales Sr. of Longview; three granddaughters, Delilah R. Dinkins and Keelee D.

Dinkins, both of Longview, and Shelby L. Vaughan of Frisco; and one brother, Charles L. Vaughan of Mesa, Ariz. She was born June 10, 1911, in Omaha. Bobby Joe Guess KILGORE Services for Bobby Joe Guess, 58, of Longview will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2004, at the Highland Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Riley Pippen officiating. Burial will follow in Pirtle Cemetery.

Mr. Guess passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2004, in Longview after a courageous battle with cancer. Bobby was born Nov. 23, 1945, in Kilgore. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church and worked at Trinity Industries.

Mr. Guess was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He also loved bowling, golfing and fishing. His daughter, Karen Ann Criswell, and his father, Lawrence Ray Guess, preceded Mr. Guess in death.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Guess of Longview; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and John Taliaferro of White Oak; his mother, Thelma Guess of Kilgore; a granddaughter, Allison Taliaferro of White Oak; three brothers and sisters-inlaw, Lawrence and Jan Guess of Richmond, Eddie and Carman Guess of Kilgore and Michael and Mary Ann Guess of Grand Prairie; a sister and brother- inlaw, Sandra and Tom Forester of Blackstone, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family members. WASHINGTON President Bush urged the nation on Wednesday to remain resolute in the face of mounting casualties in Iraq and continuing fears of terrorism at home, warning that "any weakness" from this country would shake the will of the rest of the world. "The world looks at us, and if we show any weakness whatsoever, there will be weakness in the world," Bush said in a speech to newspaper editors and executives. "It's essential that America show resolve and strength and not have our will shaken by those who are willing to murder the Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney will meet April 29 with members of the independent commission investigating the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the White House announced COX NEWS SERVICE Wednesday. Dorothy Pearl Smith Fowler GILMER Dorothy Pearl Smith Fowler, daughter of a pioneer East Texas family and longtime Dallas resident, died Monday, April 19, 2004, at Doctors Hospital in Garland after a short illness. She was 82. Ms.

Fowler was the daughter of David Franklin and Myrtis Rossie Smith, early settlers with farm and ranching interests in the Gilmer area. Ms. Fowler was born in Glenwood, Upshur County, and attended primary and secondary schools at Indian Rock. She also attended Dodd College in Shreveport and East Texas Baptist College. Ms.

Fowler married and was widowed by Truman McClelland Fowler, by whom she had two children. She had a third child by her second marriage to Golden D. Fowler. She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Macksyne Conde of Boca Raton, and Nancy Viola Mead of Nevada, Texas. A son, Truman Brooks Fowler, preceded her in death.

Ms. Fowler is also survived by her grandchildren, Carlos V. Conde of Boca Raton, Carla M. Conde of Paris, France, Carmela M. Conde de Vega of Lima, Peru, Truman Brooks Fowler II and Jamel McClelland Fowler, both of Dallas, and Clinton Gene Mead of Nevada, Texas, and Terri Renee Mead Stephens of Rowlett.

Also surviving her are her sisters, Clarine Smith Tucker of Longview, Mary Nell Smith Floyd of Longview and Fayrine Smith Green of Ore City. Two brothers, D.F. Survivors include his wife, Pat Fowler of Daingerfield; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Beth Fowler of New Boston and Steve and Karen Fowler of Plano; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Johnny Joyner of Omaha; six grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
